Maria
Maria sat at her desk chomping on Cheetos. She was in in another unsavoury mood as she knew she'd have to meet with Gordon soon to discuss the trial that was in four days. Despite being his representative, she strongly disliked him.
He was rude, obnoxious and had no respect for procedure. It greatly annoyed her that he'd had the date pushed forward as she was ready to never have anything to do with him again. She could postpone meeting him for at least another two days but she'd still have to contact him to arrange it.
She began typing out an email to the disagreeable man, trying to get as little Cheeto dust on the keyboard as possible. Half way through the mail, her laptop made a noise indicating she'd just received an email. She closed the draft and opened it, it was from Judge Gao.
'It is no longer possible to hold the trial on the 12th of December as a more pressing case is being held there. The trial will be moved to the 10th.
Apologies for any inconvenience,
Judge Gao.'
"Shit." She muttered, and deleted her draft to Gordon. They'd have to meet today.
Sam
Neither brother said a word as they stood in Sam's home office. He'd called Dean over the minute he'd received the email from Anna, stating that trial had been moved forward. It wasn't exactly bad news, they were prepared.
But what had really induced the quiet between the two, was Dean's recollection of a drunk conversation with Gordon, in which he'd revealed he had a gambling problem. If this was the case, then how exactly was he funding having Maria Ramirez as a lawyer? She was top tier, as were her expenses.
"Maybe we should call Ash." Sam suggested.
"Can Ash even do that? Check out his finances I mean?" Dean asked him.
"I don't know but it's worth a try." He shrugged, taking his phone out and dialling their friend.
10 minutes later, Ash was on the case and the boys were pacing around the office. If something came up they'd have a lot more leverage, instead of going through the trial they could tell Gordon to drop the charges. Sam leant against the desk and Dean slumped down in the spinning chair with a sigh.
"I saw her yesterday" he said.
"Who? Maria?" Dean nodded in confirmation. "What happened?"
"Nothing." Dean chuckled. "I saw her leaving the gym and that's it." Sam got the sense there was more to the story that Dean wasn't telling him.
"You didn't talk to her?"
"Nope." Sam raised an eyebrow.
"You didn't even try?" Dean paused for a moment before replying. "You did."
"She was in a taxi before I could get to her." He had an expression on his face he'd never seen before, but he covered it with a jokey smile.
Sam was unsure on what to say or do, he didn't know how Dean was feeling and he knew he wouldn't tell him, because Dean didn't 'do feelings'. He realised it had to have taken a lot for him to tell him what he had, so he cut him some slack.
"Listen, Dean I gotta apologise for something."
"Yeah?"
Sam took a breath.
"I kind of forced you into saying what you did that night and it's my fault she's mad at you. I shouldn't have gotten in your business but I just don't want anything to go wrong here because if it does you could go to jail for a long time and-"
"Sam." He stood and placed his hands on Sam's shoulders. "I was never worried, cuz you're my lawyer."
It was an understatement to say that it wasn't often that Dean said things like this, but they always left Sam speechless.
"We're gonna kick Gordon's ass."
"Ok that's true but there's something else." Sam said, smiling sheepishly.
"Oh God, what?" Dean sighed, sitting down again.
"I kind of went on a date with the judge."
"YOU WHAT?"
