Sam
"WAKE UUUUUUUUUUP!" Sam was jolted awake by the sound of Maria shouting like the over excited child in a woman's body she was.
"Jesus Christ, Maria." Sam muttered from the air mattress on the floor."Don't worry, I made coffee." Who was this angel in the fiery depths of 8 in the morning? Of course, it was Anna. Sam slowly sat up and gratefully took the mug that was handed to him.
"Why on earth are we awake?" He asked.Dean rolled his eyes.
"Someone got a little excited and woke up at 6 and this was the longest I could make her stay in bed." He shot a pointed look at Maria who was grinning triumphantly.
"C'mon you bunch of Scrooges, it's Jesus' birthday!""You know, you're actually one of the last people I'd expect to be this enthusiastic about Christmas." Anna observed, Maria smiled knowingly.
"Generally I'm not, but this year I'm getting stuff. And I have a boyfriend." There was a strangled choking sound from the armchair that Dean had occupied."And who would that be?" He spluttered. Maria tsk'ed at her and shook her head.
"I took you saving me from a kidnapper as you asking and my acceptance was allowing you to sleep in my bed." She said as if it were the most obvious thing on earth.
"Well I ain't gonna object to that." Dean snorted."Like you have a choice. Anyway, presents!" She exclaimed.
"Can't we eat first?" Sam whined.
"You guys are so boring. Food can wait."
"And presents can't?" Anna laughed."Ok let's negotiate here-" Sam suggested, Maria folded her arms defensively.
"I'm not a terrorist."
"We'll eat first and I'll wash up." Maria's face brightened at that.
"Fine with me!" She dashed off to the kitchen, Dean in tow."I wish I'd known she could be like this before I got so terrified about going up against her in court." Sam sighed.
With breakfast out of the way, they settled back in the living room to open presents. As was to be expected, Dean was practically itching to open the strangely large package sitting next to the tree with his name on.
"Save that one till last." Sam grinned at his brother. The first to tear into the wrapping paper with frightening ferocity was Maria, revealing a round pink box that took her seconds to open. She retrieved the pair of earrings Sam had bought her, they were two snakes looped into the shape of a circle with detailed engraved scales and eyes. Obviously, she adored them and put them in straight away.
"Sam, these are freaking awesome." She grinned, hugging him. He was a little taken aback by the affectionate act but couldn't help but smile and hug her back.
"They look pretty badass." He chuckled."Now open yours from me!" She clapped her hands together.
"How did you manage to get presents for us?" He asked incredulously.
"Ever shopped online before, genius?" She teased, handing everyone packages varying in shape and size. She'd bought Sam a book on the philosophy of law, with which he was delighted, for Anna she'd (rather hilariously) bought her a set of rather random cookie cutters, some shaped like unicorns, some like stars and one even shaped in an A. Along with those she'd gotten her an apron that read 'Don't mess with a chef that does taekwondo'.
When it came to Dean's gift, the pair decided they'd open their gifts from each other at the same time.
Personally, Sam was glad they had or their reactions wouldn't have been nearly as entertaining. The two simultaneously gasped when they'd removed the equally bad wrapping paper.
"Led Zeppelin's Ramble On record? This looks first edition?" Dean exclaimed."This is just freaky, Def Leppard's Love Bites, and I know this is first edition because I remember seeing one!" Maria's eyes were too busy sparkling in awe of the present to notice Dean reading the card she'd attached.
"Dean, don't read this card out lou- ohhh." He read, his eyes widening as he scanned it.Once he'd finished, he closed it and slid it back in the envelope, silent. Maria and Dean met gazes and smirked.
"Nice." They murmured in unison.
"You two are so weird it's almost uncomfortable to watch." Sam groaned. The rest of the gift giving proceeded just as successfully, Dean adoring the t-shirt Anna had gotten him and putting it on right away much to Maria's delight. When Maria discovered the baking utensils it took all they had to convince her not to make a cake right there and then.
There was a particularly sweet moment when Sam fastened the silver necklace he bought for Anna around her neck, and her cheeks flushed red. Maria 'awed' loudly and muttered;
"OTP." Much to Anna's embarrassment. In return, he got S and W cuff links with a note stating "because you look pretty dashing in a suit" which he absolutely adored. When the time came for Dean to give his gifts to Sam and Anna he was grinning like an idiot. He handed a wrapped box to Anna and a a soft package to Sam.
Anna's present turned out to be a gavel with her name engraved in it which shed found rather amusing.
"Where do you even get engraved gavels?" She asked in bemusement.
"I know a guy." Dean waved a hand nonchalantly.Sam opened his and it was an expensive looking shirt that was a beautiful light blue in colour.
"Anna and I may or may not have coordinated our gifts." He chuckled.
"Where have you been hiding this good taste in shirts Dean?" Sam teased but fist bumped his brother in thanks all the same."Now can I please open that big one?" Dean pleaded. Sam nodded and smiled like a Cheshire Cat as he watched his brother gasp in pure delight at his beer fridge.
"Freakin' fantastic!" He pulled Sam in for an unexpected hug and over his shoulder Sam noticed the girls grinning maniacally. That's when he had an idea.
Anna
The four of them got out of the Impala, wrapping their coats tighter around themselves in the winter chill.
"And here we are!" Sam presented excitedly. They looked in the direction he'd just waved in and spotted a huge ice rink."This is a great idea!" Maria clapped her hands excitedly. "I love skating!"
"Looks like fun." Dean agreed, throwing an arm over Maria's shoulders.
"Somehow, I get the feeling this could be interesting." Anna chuckled, knowing full well the Winchester brothers were not creatures of spectacular grace. The four went to the skate hire stand and retrieved their skates and put them on. When they were fully equipped, they staggered out onto the rink, wary of the more experienced skaters who were flying around the ice.
"Ok this is lookin' more and more dangerous." Dean muttered.Maria was the first to get going, wobbling a little but quickly finding her feet and skating forward a little, seemingly testing her skills. She then grabbed Dean by the wrist and dragged him on, he promptly fell directly on to his backside.
"This was definitely a good idea." Sam snorted."Don't speak too soon." Anna warned, foreseeing a similar fate for Sam. Anna herself stepped on the ice, and clung on to the edge as she tried to gauge just how slippery it was. With Maria's help however, she had the technique and began to practise moving her feet accordingly on the ice.
When she'd built enough confidence, she helped Sam on, and the minute he hit the ice he became a flailing mess resembling a baby giraffe learning how to walk.
"Your balance is astounding." Maria sniggered, as she skated past him.
"This is hard ok!" Sam cried. When Anna didn't think the scene could get any funnier, the brothers began clinging onto each other as they scrambled to stay standing. It looked like something out of a comedy skit.
"Son of a bitch, who thought this was a good idea?" Dean yelled.Sam attempted to skate forward, but ended up crashing to the ground in a heap, dragging Dean with him. The girls had to hold on to the edge of the rink to steady themselves as they were laughing so hard.
"Well, I never thought I'd spend Christmas lying on a sheet of ice with Dean on top of me." Sam muttered.
