Lauren & Daniel
A quiet knock could be heard on the door. Lauren hadn't caught a wink of sleep since she gave up the hope of him returning home anytime soon. she tried but didn't succeed.
She got out of bed and stomped to the door, then opening it carefully so she wouldn't break it out of anger. When the door opened he was hovering in the doorway, the smell of booze filling her nostrils. His curly, dark hair reached down to his shoulders.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" she hissed.
"C'mon L"
"No! You've been at this for too long, Daniel, I'm so tired of you coming in at 5 in the morning and drinking until you don't remember who I am anymore!" Lauren walked into their apartment they rarely shared nowadays and Daniel followed.
"Ofcourse I'll never forget you L, I love you" Daniel convinced.
"Do you? really? because you have a weird way of showing that" Lauren stated turning around and throwing him a sad glare.
"L...I.."
she crossed her arms and turned her head the other way, she couldn't look at him. She felt so unwanted by his behavior, she never understood why he had started drinking so much all of a sudden. Had she done something wrong? What was he not telling her? Her head was a tornado of thoughts always clouding her mind.
Her eyes started watering and he couldn't bear to see the only person he had truly loved in tears
and all because of him.
"I don't understand you Dan, all that drinking is just a short term fix for something you aren't telling me. All this waking up in the middle of the night is draining me, aren't you tired?"
Daniel put his hands around her face and turned it towards his. Tears stained her cheeks, he hated what he had done to her. He was the cause of all the chaos and the reason for all their fighting. He couldn't stand the fact that he spent his nights drinking and came home every night, and no matter what he did she always let him in, she loved him no matter what, she was always there to walk after him and pull off his boots when he had fallen asleep on their bed and always put a glass of water beside him for him to wake up to.
He let his lips brush hers, he kissed her and wiped her tears.
"I'm sorry" he whispered as he gently tucked away a strand of silver hair. She hugged his body, her face against his chest, ignoring the smell of alcohol on his shirt. He rested his head on hers. That's what they do, their signature move, and she always felt safe, with her hands around him and her head resting under his.
He took her head into his palms and made her look him in his bloodshot eyes
"I'll stop, it's all over. Now it's you and me...you and me L" he reassured. Lauren nodded and Daniel pulled her back into his arms, where he felt she belonged.
They stood like that for a long time, long enough for them both to know how deeply and unconditionally they loved each other.
"just you and me, L" he whispered with his head on hers. "just you and me"
