Mary & David
They walked up the stairs thinking they would never end. The absence of an elevator torturing their legs.
They were out of breath when they reached the door to his apartment. Daniel had always been fond of apartment buildings. The thought of living together as a little community, all it's own. It cheered him.
He reached into his pocket, it was empty of all things."No you didn't" Mary warned. He looked at her and flushed of guilt. "Damn"
After they had called after maintenance and waited an hour they had gotten comfortable in the stairwell.
"This is nice" David mentioned. "We can live here" he chirped. Mary was resting her head on his shoulder, thinking of the idea of them living in the stairwell of an apartment building.
"What if we just live here"
Mary didn't know if he had asked her a question or just stated a fact."We would have guests all the time" Mary added, talking about the people constantly barging into their house and walking up and down the stairs, she didn't like the thought of that. "But if we're going to live here we have to have a 'new house dinner', isn't that tradition?" She asked and stood up and headed up the stairs. She stuck her hand into the grocery bag that was laying on the floor of their apartment. She came flying down the stairs and sat down next to Daniel with a jar of nutella and a box of large strawberries.
"Enjoy" she said and stuck a nutella covered strawberry in her mouth and handed the dinner to Daniel.
"This is going to be a good life" he stated. "We'll raise our kids here"
