Jonathan & Eli

Eli was sitting quietly in a quiet library when she heard a familiar pair of footsteps. She scoffed hoping it would be loud enough for him to hear.
Jonathan sat down next to her, slamming his books onto the table, not so quietly.

"I'm trying to study, Jonathan" she exhaled.

"Yeah me too, that's why I'm here" he chirped.
She couldn't stand his constant hovering. She didn't understand why he even bothered with her, no one else did. Talking with him was the only social interaction she had during school.
Thinking about it, he was rather nice, and kind.
But why her? There are plenty of prettier girls in their school, she constantly thought.

She eyed him, questionably but let her guard down and continued studying.

"So..." Jonathan started. Eli tried to ignore his constant, literal hovering. "You come here often?"

"Were at school, Jonathan" Eli stated. Jonathan looked curiously around like he just discovered their location. Eli couldn't help but chuckle.

Jonathan smiled. He had first noticed her in history class, then he had begun to see her in the cafeteria but she always seemed to disappear. So one day he sat down next to her in the cafeteria where she always sits by herself and a for a few days he always did the same.
After a week he finally made her smile, and it was the most beautiful smile he had ever seen. Her freckled covered nose scrunched as she laughed and Jonathan was completely mesmerized.
After that he had made it his aim to make her smile because of him.

"Are you always this observant?" Eli asked. Jonathan was thrown back to reality, he had been lost in her dimples.
"No, everything always seems to become quite unclear when you're around"

Eli's throat became dry
Had she heard right?
She looked at him and he was smiling his crooked smile, the one she adored but wouldn't confess to herself.

Then she smiled back.

His aim was reached.
