Carter's POV
Back to present
Today was Monday. Chase and I had been going strong for about three weeks now. Colin had moved on and gotten a girlfriend. I didn't approve, though. He had to be cliché and date a cheerleader.
Dance team tryouts were today. I was most likely going to make the team. I was probably going to be captain, too.
The day flew by in a breeze. Angel and I stayed clear of each other. I became good friends with the pizza guy, Logan. He was really nice and he was a big lacrosse player. The hair gave it away, though. We promised each other that he would come to one of my competitions and I would go to one of his games when lacrosse season came.
I actually had a friend. It felt nice to have someone so supportive. Logan was someone that I could go to with anything. He told me that he had a crush on the cheer captain. I encouraged him to go after her. He was afraid that she wouldn't like him because he wasn't a football player. I had to convince him that she probably would because we weren't living in a high school movie. He decided to ask her out on a date after school today.
Chase was a great boyfriend. He was always by my side and bought me lots of gifts. In the course of three weeks, he had given me flowers, a teddy bear, candy, chocolate, and a bracelet. I always thanked him accordingly.
After school, I went to the locker room to get changed for dance. I had forgotten my shirt at home. I texted Chase and asked him to bring me one.
Five minutes later, Chase walked into the girls' locker room and took off his shirt. All the girls in there scurried to put on clothes and some scurried to take off their clothes. He gave me his shirt and a lot of the girls in there got a sneak peek at his abs. I wasn't even jealous because I got to see them every night.
Tryouts were fun. Some of the other girls were really good, but some were trying out to make their friends look better.
I had no friends that were girls so I looked like a loner. I couldn't wait for this to all be over.

Angel's POV
Chase was at football practice after school. His practice ended before Carter's tryouts so I went over to talk to him. I found him waiting for Carter at his motorcycle.
"Chase!" I called for him.
He snapped his head up. "What?"
"I think it's time that you cheated on Carter."
"With who?"
"Me of course."
"I'm not sleeping with your ugly ass again. One and done." He said in a bored tone.
"Kiss your scholarship goodbye then." I turned to walk away but Chase stopped me.
"Wait! I'm not sleeping with you. We make it look like we did or the deal's off."
I honestly did want to sleep with Chase one last time, even if it was fake, but I needed to go through with this plan. I nodded in agreement and started to walk home. I didn't live far from school. It would only take me about ten minutes to get home.
I traveled alone.

When I got home, I saw a parked car in my driveway. It wasn't my mom's car. This should've been my cue to go somewhere else, but I stupidly walked inside my house to find a stranger sitting at my kitchen table. He was drinking a beer.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"A friend of your mothers." He smirked. He was up to no good.
"Why are you here?"
"I am waiting on your mom to come back with food, but you look delicious." He got up from his seat and walked towards me.
I backed away but he quickly grabbed my wrist. He pushed me against the counter and grabbed my face. I felt behind me for something hard. I picked up a metal rolling pin and hit him on the head. He took a step backwards and rubbed his head.
I ran upstairs to my room and I heard him following me. I grabbed my dad's old baseball bat. I had just picked it up when the man entered my room. He shut the door. I ran at him was the bat and took a swing at his head. He fell to the floor and didn't move.
I grabbed my phone and shakily dialed 911. I lived in the poor part of town so they didn't respond to my call very quickly. I left the man in my room and went to wait outside with my baseball bat.
Thirty minutes later, the police and an ambulance arrived. The paramedics said that the man was fine and was just unconscious. The police took my statement and asked if I wanted to press charges. I said yes. I wanted this man to go to jail for a long time. I didn't know why my mother brought men like him home.
As I was talking to the police, my mom pulled into the driveway. She frantically got out the car.
"What happened?" she asked quickly.
I rolled my eyes, "Your boy toy tried to rape me."
The detective chimed in, "Your daughter is a minor since she is only 17. We will be arresting Mr. Williams with sexual assault charges."
My mother placed her hand over her chest and then hugged me. I didn't hug her back. She had no business touching me.
"Can we review your statement?" the detective asked. I nodded my head.
"So you claimed that you walked home from school. You got home around 5 pm and you found Mr. Williams sitting in the kitchen drinking a beer. You questioned him and he stated that you looked delicious. He then grabbed your wrist, pushed you against the counter and started to pull down his pants while he tried to kiss you. You hit him with a rolling pin which made him stagger and then you ran to your room. He followed you and you swung at his head with a baseball bat. You then called 911 and came outside to wait. Correct?"
"Yes, detective, thank you." I smiled. I had exaggerated a tad bit, but who would ever know? I wanted this man to go to jail for a long time. My mom didn't need men.
The detective shook hands with my mother and he and his partner left. My mom and I went inside.
Everything that she did outside was just an act. Behind closed doors, she was completely different.
She looked at me with darkness in her eyes, "Why did you lie?"
"I didn't."
"You probably came onto him and then hit him to make yourself look innocent."
"You are the only one into dirty old men in this house." I spit back.
She slapped me hard against the face. I became enraged. I slapped her back with everything I had been holding back.
"Don't ever do that again." She said as she rubbed her cheek.
"I will do what I want!" I yelled.
My mom shook her head and went to her room. I sat in the living room thinking about life.
Once again, the realization hit me: I had no one.
