Carter's POV
Today was Saturday. Also the day where I went on my first date with Chase. He told me to dress nicely like formal but not like wedding formal. I decided to wear a dark blue dress that stopped mid-thigh. It had lace in the back and lace sleeves. It was my favorite dress, but I didn't get to wear it very often because it was dressy. I paired it off with black high heel ankle boots.
I curled my hair and put on light makeup. I wasn't a fan of wearing a lot of makeup. I hated when girls caked their faces. I didn't know if guys found it attractive or not, but it wasn't attractive in my opinion.
I looked at myself and turned around in the mirror. I looked awesome for once in my life. I went downstairs to wait on Chase. I was done twenty minutes before he was supposed to pick me up.
My mom was sitting at the dining room table drinking wine. She and my dad both had been drinking a lot lately. She looked miserable. I honestly couldn't blame her. Nothing was right in the world at the moment.
"Hey, sweetie, You look beautiful." She sadly smiled. It was weak.
"Thanks, momma. How are you doing?"
"Things aren't great, but let's talk about you. We haven't talked in a while. Are you going out with Colin?"
"We broke up." I felt like crying, but I didn't want to mess up my makeup.
"Why? I thought he would be your one and only."
"I cheated on him." I whispered. I was ashamed of myself.
"Was it worth it?"
"No."
She grabbed my hand and rubbed circles with her thumb on the back.
"Temptation is tough. I know Colin is crazy for you. I could see in his eyes that he loved you. Time heals all."
"Enough about that. I heard about dad and Aunt Dana."
My mom drew in a quick breath. "I don't know what to do."
"Time heals all," I repeated her words. She smiled at me and took another sip of her wine, "Mom, will you promise me that you will stop drinking so much wine?"
"I need it."
"You don't need it. You were doing perfectly fine without it."
"You don't know half the story. If you did, you would be drinking like I am, too."
I was about to ask her about the story, but someone was knocking on the door. I figured it was Chase.
He looked amazing. He was wearing a sweater vest with his sleeves rolled up to his elbows. His pants were black as well as his shoes.
"Hey, beautiful." He looked me up and down.
"You look handsome." I replied. My mom walked to the front door. I didn't know why because she was a mess. Her hair wasn't neat and she was wearing some old gray sweats.
"This doesn't look like Colin to me." She said while crossing her arms.
"Uh, no. This is Chase. My new boyfriend."
She looked him up and down and made a disapproving face. "Is he the go-to?" she asked.
I wanted to die from embarrassment.
"Hi, Mrs. Mason. Nice to meet you." He stuck out his hand.
"Hmph," My mom turned on her heel and walked away without shaking his hand. Before she was completely out the room she turned around and yelled, "I am team Colin all the way!"
