Elizabeth’s POV:

Today is the distribution of the report card and I’m a bit nervous because a lot of people told me that I’ve changed a lot not just in my attitude but also in my studies. I’m very afraid to fail because I’m one of the toppers in class and everything would be really different if I won’t be the number one this time.

“Elizabeth, you look quite nervous. Why is that?” My mom asked me.

“Nothing mom, I’m just a bit nervous for the results.” I replied.

“That seems not the Elizabeth I used to know, huh. If you think you did well this semester, then there’s no reason for you to be nervous.” She smiled at me.

“Uhh yeah, I think so.” I said, not looking at her.

I saw a lot of students jumping out for joy because they got high grades. I saw Izzy, Nathalie, Michelle, and Juliette looking very happy as well maybe because they passed. I’m getting even more nervous now.

“Elizabeth Roberts, can you please come here with your parents as well?” My adviser said.

“What’s the matter Ms.?” My mom asked.

“We know that Elizabeth is one of the toppers in the class but this is very shocking and I’m really disappointed to say that she failed a lot of subjects this semester. I don’t know what happened to you Elizabeth, but whatever it is you should work hard for your grades. You’ve changed a lot. You’re always late and sometimes you didn’t submit your projects; what’s happening to you, sweetie?” Ms. Stillwell said; looked very disappointed.

“I’m sorry, Ms. I really don’t know but don’t worry I’ll cover up my grades next semester, and I’ll study hard.” I said.

“Elizabeth, next semester is the last semester in this school year and if you’re still like this, I’m sorry to tell you but you’ll be out of the toppers. You have to work extra hard this time and maybe I guess it’s also because of your new group of friends.” Ms. Stillwell added.

“How did you know, Ms.?” I asked curiously.

“Well sweetie, I really admire your old group of friends because you all are doing great both in academics and extra-curricular but I noticed that you’ve changed your group of friends. I’m not saying that they’re bad influence but I’m just looking for some reasons why you ended up like this.” She replied and sighed.

“Ms, can you please excuse us? I just have to talk with my daughter.” My mom said.

We went to somewhere not crowded and away from my adviser, my mom looked a bit mad for the results.

“What’s happening to you? Don’t tell me you’re not the same Elizabeth anymore and you’re now like those typical girls around the street who cares for their appearance and love life. I didn’t raise you like this, sweetie. Now explain to me why.” She said in an angry tone.

“Mom, I really don’t know why. Maybe because I’m too busy with all the activities and clubs here in school that I’m joining. But I promise you that you won’t get disappointed to me anymore next semester. Please give me a second chance. All of us should fail to learn and be stronger. Mom, you don’t know what I’m going through but at the end, you’ll understand why.” I said, a bit sobbing.

“Whatever it is, I hope that’s a valid reason why are you acting like this. Plus, is it true that you’re not friends with Izzy, Nathalie, Julie, and Michelle anymore?” She asked me, looking in my eyes.

“Uhmm I’ve just realized to join and get along with other people.” I fake smiled.

“But that doesn’t mean you’re just going to throw your old friendship.” She said.

“I didn’t mean to throw it! In fact, I’m just protecting it. Mom, I’ll tell you everything soon.” I said and smiled.

“Just always remember that we’re always here for you and don’t make any decisions that can put your life in trouble. Study hard, okay? You have to prove them that they’re wrong. I love you my daughter.” She smiled and hugged me.
