Ch. 5

Kenichi was dumbstruck as he saw Hiyori in front of him by the time he opened the door of his apartment.

Hiyori quickly looked away from him and said, "Here. This is for you and your mom..."

Kenichi smirked at her blushing face and took the lunch box from her. "Kenichi-kun, who is it?" he heard his mom asked him.

"It's..." but before he could finish what he's about to say to his mother, Seri Fujiro, came out from behind him. Kenichi watched his mom pass by him and said,

"Oh, it's you Hiyori-chan! How are you? Come in," taking Hiyori's hand and pulled her inside the apartment, startling her before she could react.

"I need to go..." Hiyori said uneasily.

"Don't go home just yet. Have dinner with us," His mom smiled at her warmly.

"Thank you..." Hiyoki just said without looking at Kenichi who moved away to let them pass.

God, why did she even come here?, Kenichi thought to himself as he closed the door and followed them inside.

"Eat as many food as you like, Hiyori-chan. I told your mom that you're going to have dinner here and she didn't object..." Kenichi's mom said as she put rice on Hiyori's bowl, smiling at her.

"Domo arigato, Seri-san..." Hiyori said as she took the bowl of rice from her and placed it in front of her on the dining table.

"Do itashimashite, Hiyori-chan. Why not stay here for a while after eating dinner?" Seri suggested as she took a piece of steamed fish from a plate at the center of the dining table.

Hiyori fidgeted with her hands on her lap before saying, "I...I still have homeworks to do..." without looking at Seri-san.

I've noticed...she's ignoring my gaze whenever I look at her, Kenichi thought as he chew on his rice then took a piece of beef stew from the center table while watching her every move.

"You can ask, Kenichi-kun to help you with your homework," said Kenichi's mom which almost made him choke on his food.

"Oka-san..." Kenichi quickly protested but she ignored him. Of all people why would I help HER?, he wanted to shout but stopped himself.

"I...I don't know...he might not know the answer..." Hiyori stammered which caught Kenichi by surprise.

What?! You're underestimating me!, he thought angrily.

She look around but never meet his gaze.

"Alright, finish your food first and Kenichi-kun will help you with your homework," Kenichi knew that there will be no stopping his mom.

Geez! I can't believe mom! I bet Hiyori hates me now..., Kenichi thought.

Of course she does!, part of his mind said.

What did I get myself into?

After dinner, Kenichi helped his mom in cleaning up the table and washing the dishes. Hiyori wanted to help but Kenichi's mom asked her not to so she went back to her apartment to get the things she needs in order to finish her homeworks.

Hiyori came back to Kenichi's apartment 15 minutes later and she was about to put her things down in the living area when Kenichi's mom spoke.

"Why don't you guys study in Kenichi's room?" She suggested.

What are you thinking mom?!, Kenichi gave his mom a glare but she didn't notice it while she continues, "I'll bring you guys snacks later..." Then went off to the kitchen.

Mom's really unbelievable!, he ranted in his mind.

"Wait here...I'll tidy up my room first," Kenichi said to Hiyori who was just frozen on the spot in the living room. Then hurried up to his room.

"This really sucks..." Muttered Kenichi under his breath as he went up stairs and into his room.
