As soon as the ferry reached the island a wave of nauseousness flooded through her senses, causing her knees to become weak as the ferry stopped against the docks. Meg took in a deep breath, grabbing her coat tightly as she slowly walked towards the edge of the boat, getting off carefully as she ignored the view of the waters below her. Once on shore, she relaxed in her stance slightly, looking straight ahead to the attractions and buildings that had been built only in the months before. She took another breath and began to walk towards the theatre where she knew Erik would be, listening to her heels clutch against the asphalt with each step that she took. The sun was now on the horizon, showing various colors of pink and purple as the sun began to descend towards the night. As soon as she reached the building, she harshly opened the heavy wooden doors and took a look around the theatre. With the investment she had just secured through her traitorous deed, that should be more then enough to come close to finishing the theatre, if not finishing it completely.
Someone had gone to the trouble of lighting various candles on the stage as well as the path that led to Erik's office that made her quite grateful. Taking an unused candle, she lit it with another one against the wall and made her way to Erik's office. Her steps echoed against the hallow walls with every step she took, another reminder that the clock was ticking towards her impending doom. Her steps slowed down in pace in hopes to ease her rapidly beating heart but to no avail. She sighed and gently knocked on the door to his office, clutching onto the candle tightly as the wax began to get onto her hand.
"Come in," said his voice so softly that she did not almost hear it.
Slowly she opened the door to his office, letting the candle flame glow against her skin as the sun was now almost completely set. The sunlight teased a partial image of his form, hanging over his desk as he was looking at paperwork with only a single candle as his source of light. His head was rested in his free hand as he did not look up from where he was reading.
"What is it?" he asked her.
"I'm back from the city," Meg replied softly, causing Erik's face to whip up back at her voice as a smile formed on his face.
"Meg!" Erik exclaimed, rising from his chair to approach her, "You were supposed to be back before dark."
"Technically I am," she responded honestly, pointing to the window as Erik wrapped his arms around her.
"You know what I meant," he replied, not amused by her sarcasm.
Meg sighed once more and embraced him in return, letting her arms linger around his longer then she needed to. For who knew the next time she would be able to do so?
She slowly pulled from his embrace, already missing the warmth his slender body provided "Erik, about the investment-"
"Not now my dear, right now I have something to show you," he replied, taking her hand as he led her down to the stage, which was still lit from a few moments ago.
She let him lead her down to the stage, unsure of what exactly he wanted to show her but the fact she was not allowed to present her terrible news before presenting this gift made her nerves reach a new peak. Her hand became sweaty in his as her other held onto the candle tightly, reaching the stage in record time as he let go of her hand.
"Stay right here," he instructed, walking behind the ripped stage curtain to leave her alone with the candle.
The wax on her hand became unbearable as she turned around to find an empty slept to place it in. Bending down she placed it there carefully, not wanting to cause any more damage to the stage then it already had. After doing so she wiped the wax off of her hand, placing it by the candle as she heard a loud sound coming straight towards her. She turned around fast, noticing the sound was from Erik pushing the piano over to where she stood. A smile came to her face at the sight, her nerves disappearing as she realized she was acting foolish. Of course Erik wanted to show her a song, after all he was a musical genius.
