You say I matter
So why do you try and shatter
Every piece of me

I know it takes two
But you know I can't be there with you
And that's all I wanna be

I said I'm sorry but
I just can't get enough
Cause you belong to me

But how does it feel
To pretend I'm not real
When the distance between just isn't ideal
So open your eyes, a day at a time
And I'm closer to being next to you
Oohhh ohhh
Next to you
Ohhh oh oh

Lauren sat on a stool, on stage, playing her acoustic guitar as she sang into the mic. She was in a bar and it was having it's weekly open mic night and every week, Lauren would come by to sing a song.

It's been a few years. After graduation, she went to study at NYU but then realized her heart was not in it so she dropped out. She's been staying alone in a small apartment in New York. She worked at a small café near her apartment in the day and performs at the bar at night. It wasn't what she had expected in life but it worked.

The worst part of it all
Is that I keep building this wall
To push me away from you

But I want you to break it
To show me that we can make it
Cause that's all I wanna do

I said I'm sorry but
I just can't get enough
Cause I belong to you

How does it feel
To pretend I'm not real
When the distance between
Just isn't ideal

So open your eyes, a day at a time
And I'm closer to being next to you
Oohh ohhh
Next to you
Ohhh oh oh

I know that I'd make you mine
If you would just make the time
You say that you need me
It's never that easy

How does it feel to pretend I'm not real
When the distance between just isn't ideal
So open your eyes, a day at a time
And I'm closer to being next to you
Oooo ohhh oooo
And I'm closer to
Being next to you

The small crowd applauded. Lauren smiled as she thanked them before getting off stage. She met up with some people who commended her for her performance. She also met with some people who wanted to sign her. The green eyed girl just smiled politely before walking away.

She placed her guitar back into its case and was about to leave when she felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned around and froze in place.

"Can I have buy you a drink?" asked a brunette.

Lauren felt the corner of her lips twitch before a smile crept onto her face.

"So, this is what you've been doing?" the brunette asked as she took a sip of beer from her bottle.

"You can say that," Lauren said as she took a sip of whiskey, "What are you doing here, Camila?"

The brunette shrugged, "I don't know."
