Chapter 34• Final Round
In the past 3 days I have seen Blake about two, maybe three times. I haven't seen Blake at all today because today was.... The day. It was the championships later today and so Blake was revising tactics and preparing himself as much as he could. He hasn't been doing much training on this trip except from going to the gym a few times here and there.
He was doing half a day of training today, or so he told me, so he should be back right on lunchtime so that he can have some rest before the fights.
We've been seeing so much of eachother during this trip and spent almost every waking minute together that not seeing him very often has been weird. I try not to show it but whenever he leaves, it upsets me and I find myself missing him more than I should. I try not to show this because his life is a bundle of stress at the moment. With not only the championships on his back, he also has to prepare himself for meeting his half brother and whoever may be with him.
This wouldn't concern me if the guy seemed nice, we knew his name and he didn't make Blake meet him in person at the most stressful place, to finally give him some well deserved knowledge.
I don't know how Blake does it. He doesn't have a mother to help him, and he has to be constantly reminded of that due to the pieces she left behind.
I felt a poke to my side and turned in shock to see Bridget grinning at me, her finger hovering in-between us.
"That's why you can't be trusted cooking with heat, you always end up daydreaming." Bridget said with a teasing intention and an accusing look.
We, excluding Blake, were currently brewing up a storm — literally — as we trotted around the kitchen pretending we knew what we were doing to make ourselves and Blake breakfast and lunch.
We ate breakfast together, then relaxed for a while mostly doing our own things. When noon rolled around Blake entered the apartment, looking hot and sweaty as ever, we had a nice lunch together in the warmth of the apartment before having to leave in a few hours. We tried to take Blake's mind off tonight for some time, so after lunch Blake fall asleep on the couch. Oh, did I mention cuddling me? Well, he had trouble sleeping in the middle of the day, or so he said, and as he had me in his arms while I was channel surfing, he fell into a chamber of soft snores and hopefully good dreams.
I hadn't noticed that I had fallen asleep too until my phone buzzed from its fallen spot on the floor. I picked it up and checked my notifications to see I had a new message from an unknown number. With half-lidded eyes, I read the message.
Hey there, shortcake. It's me, the big brother to Blake. Just a little wish for good luck to your buddy Blake, and tell him that I can't wait to see him! Judging by the skill and talent your little friend and I have, I should be competing with him in his final round. With this newfound knowledge, I decided that it would be best to have a little meet-up after he wins, once he defeats me. If, however, he loses then circumstances will take a drastic turn. You already knew this, of course. So once his fate has been decided and it goes to his advantage, let's all meet at the corner of Thomas St and Franklin Rd afterwards, and I promise everything will be revealed. Good luck beating me, you'll need it. -The Hurricane
Freezing in shock and gasping loudly, I thought to myself, what sort of person would do this? How can someone be so menacing and inhumane? To threaten Blake, to threaten all of us, now that is taking this battle a whole new level.
Blake's arms tightened around me while I was still frozen. It took a moment for Blake to awaken slightly more than he was. "Princess, what's wrong?" Concern seeped out of his voice and without looking I could tell his eyebrows would be furrowed in the way they are often.
