Chapter 35• Stay With MeThe doors swung open violently and many thunderous footsteps were heard.
"Where's Blake?" Demanded Mike from beside me.
This man who was a complete stranger to all 4 of us looked up frantically. "He's gone. After giving him first aid he just ran— sprinted, out. Something about a meeting." The stranger dissed with a panicked look.
"How long ago?" I spoke up in a firm voice.
The strangers eyes locked with mine. "About—uh—10 minutes ago."
I looked over to the other three for a fleeting second before running back out of the store and towards the car, jamming the keys in to start the engine. It roared to life as Ryan and Bridget took back seats. Mike opened my door, appearing beside me and didn't have to say anything to tell me to go into the passenger seat. I did in a hurry, regretting my unthinkable decision to drive.
It came as a surprise that Blake had already gone without us, not sticking to our plan. Then again, I should've expected something like this from Blake.
I was glad that Mike skilfully sped down empty and dark streets, the only words being occasional directions from Ryan. I was on edge, questions left unanswered and worries growing by the second.
Terrified didn't cover what I was feeling right now. The amount of tense air and anxiety in the car was sickening, closing the amount of space I felt I had.
We soon arrived on the street that Blake was meeting his half-brother—Joey. Mike parked around the corner from where a lone warehouse stood, where we could see a faint light streaming from the very few windows below the high ceilings.
I didn't want to break the silence or anyone's thoughts, but I had to know. Know what happened after I left the underground, joke of a club.
"Did Blake-" I started to say in a quiet voice but was cut off.
"Yes." Ryan responded. My eyes went from my tangled hands to Ryan, sitting in the backseat with a soft look in his eyes.
"He... He won?" I asked, bewildered.
"Well and truly. You're now dating a very rich man, Ella." Ryan said, trying to lighten the mood slightly.
I looked away, staring mindlessly out the window. Ryan's comment didn't bother me in the slightest.
Joey. It had to be Joey freaking Curtis. Devil of all Devils, player of all players. I don't understand what he found interesting enough to ruin in Blake and I's lives, but he sure saw something worthy. Per Se.
"Bridget, make the call." I said while keeping my eyes trained on the lighting in the warehouse, now flickering.
Bridget knew what I was referring to although I could tell she wanted to say something, probably to avoid the inevitable. She put her phone on speaker a few moments later and we heard the dial tone.
A familiar, comforting voice answered the phone and my heart swelled. My eyes became glassy and I gripped the front dash.
Dad.
Bridget was giving my dad the details and somewhere through the conversation mum had joined too. She then made a conference call with Seth, Blake's dad to help us out.
