Chapter 16• Not Miss Kitten

Mum called us over to the dinner table, after a few minutes of small talk in the lounge room with Dad, Seth, and Blake.

It was already turning out to be a comfortable night, I don't know whether it's because of the small amount of people, or that I was expecting Blake to be... Odd. Like how, in movies or books, it comes to dinner at a house with a guy, they act like they haven't met the girl. Or they do the total opposite and lie about how they met, etc.

Dad and Seth always found topics to talk about. Since mum and dad are quite opposite, whenever she is with them they always end up debating. Seth changes a lot, when you expect him to be on one side, he turns out to be on the other. Never ceases to surprise me.

"Ella, you know, this is the first time I've seen you tonight since you've got home?" Mum asked me while continuing her meal.

"I know, sorry, homework." I shrugged, knowing that she will understand.

"For that long? Can't you spread your homework out?" Really, mum? We have to talk about homework at dinner?

"I'm busy the next few days." I said.

"Do tell." Dad cut in.

I looked at Seth and Blake who were both looking at me expectantly. Well, not so much Seth, but Blake was willing to hear what I have to say.

"Well... I'm catching up with Locky tomorrow! So yea, yay. And Friday, I'm.. Uh going out, with a friend from school." I smiled sweetly, hoping they wouldn't press on. I normally would tell my parents something like this, but I just haven't got the chance to, so it's kind of embarrassing.

"Oh how nice! What friend, Hun?" Mum exclaimed. Again, I gave her a look trying to tell her not to talk about this now, but either she ignored it or didn't understand.

"His names Ryan. I told you about how he gave me a ride on my first week of school mum." I told them.

"Oh yes, yes. I would like to meet him! He sounds very nice and polite." Mum exclaimed again. I heard my dad let out a sort of groan. I looked at Blake and his eyebrows were furrowed, and he was looking down at his plate where he was stabbing a piece of potato, and mashing it.

"Could we not talk about this now? It's just a friend of Ella's, no big deal." Dad said.

"Okay...? Sure." Mum answered. I gulped.

"What about you, son? What are your plans and such for the future?" My dad turned and asked Blake. This time I got to look at him expectantly, as it is something I didn't know either.

We spent more time when we were playing questions, finding out things that we will probably never bring up again. I'm not saying that we talked about... Personal things. It was just... So childish and unimportant. Almost a waste of time, exept we had a lot of fun, even if we don't remember half of the answers.

Blake chewed his food and looked up, after making a clink sound putting the cutlery on his plate. "At the moment, I'm looking at a few universities. I want to do a degree in rehab through sports, 'cause I don't want to give up my devoted exercising yet." Blake explained. He drowned a few mouthfuls of water from his glass. I mentally scowled, I don't like water. How do people just drink that tasteless, stale liquid?

Dad nodded in approval. "Sounds good. What are you doing now? Got a job?"

What is this, free parents-get-to-interrogate-the-teenagers night?

Blake looked away and scratched his neck, maybe he was thinking the same thing, and he's the unfortunate target.

"Uhh, not exactly. I'm hoping to, *ahem*, make it to the National Championships in boxing. It's my grand year this year." Blake explained.
