Chapter 14

"Ow shit." I groan and hop on one foot as I search in the dark for my phone that is ringing. I finally find it and answer it.

"Hello?" I say with pain in my voice.

"Nina! Get your booty to the hospital! We are having a baby!" Candice says through the phone and I forget about the pain in my toe and start jumping up and down with excitement.

"You're joking!" I say and she starts laughing.

"No! I'm not. So come on! I want you to be in the room with me." She says and I turn the bedroom light on with Ian groaning and putting the pillow over his face.

"Tell her to hold on, aunt Nina is on the way!" I tell Candice and end the call.

"Ian! Candice is having the baby! Come on!" I pull the blankets off of him and run into the closet to grab some clothes to change into. I come back out and Ian is sliding on a pair of shorts and a Tshirt.

"It's about time she and Joe bring that baby into the world." He smiles and then yawns.

"You're telling me." I say from the bathroom and brush my teeth. I wash my face and hand Ian the toothpaste.

When we get to the hospital Joe grabs me and pulls me into Candice's room. She throws her arms up and I walk over to throw mine around her. I feel her belly for one last time and sit down next to the bed.

"It's almost time!" She smiles proudly. I can't believe my best friend is about to have a baby.

"Nina, Joe and I wanted to ask you something. We want to know if you would be okay with being her Godmother? We wouldn't want anyone else. You're the perfect role for that." She says and I start to feel tears run down my face.

"Really? You want me to be her godmother?" I smile ear to ear it feels like with happiness. Candice and Joe both nod their heads.

"I would love to be her Godmother!" I hug Joe and than hug Candice again.

An hour later I'm holding a tiny little baby girl in my arms. I smile down at her and wipe my cheek with tears falling down. I'm still in awe of how beautiful it was to see her be born and to hear the first cries come from her. And to see Candice and Joe fall more in love and to have this new love in their life's.

"Knock knock." Ian taps on the door and I smile when I see him walk in. He sees me holding the baby and smiles while walking over to take a look at her.

"Do you want to hold her?" I ask him.

"I don't know. It's been awhile since I've held a baby." He says but never takes his eyes off of her.

"Well come sit down, I'll hand her to you." I tell him and he takes a seat near the window. Candice smiles at Ian.

"What's her name?" Ian asks as I place her in his arms.

"Ellie Kate." Joe answers with a smile.

"Hi Ellie Kate." Ian whispers. I can't help but picture us, being in a room like this with a baby of our own. It's crazy to think like that, we've not even ever talked about marriage or children.

"Isn't she the cutest?" I ask him placing my hand on his arm. He smiles at me before saying yes quietly and kissing my cheek.

Later that night, Ian and I are curled up on the couch together watching tv.

"Candice keeps sending me pictures of Ellie Kate. I'd say she's obsessed already and the poor girl has only been in the world 6 hours." I laugh.

"What else would you expect?" Ian laughs with me.
