~*Preston*~

I yawn and stretch out my sore arms.
The mattress I sleep on feels as though a rock had somehow, someway, found itself inside of a sheet and is now acting like the object I sleep on. I shouldn't be complaining though; there are others in this very building who aren't as fortunate as myself. I wonder how most of them got here anyways...

"Why good morning, Preston! I was just going over to check on you!" my head caretaker, Lisa, says in her "way too cheery to be real" voice. It drives me insane every time she uses it. No pun intended.

"Hi, Lisa," I mutter quietly, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. "When's breakfast?"

"Breakfast will be in an hour or so sweetie. Until then, why don't you draw me a picture of what your home planet looks like!" I roll my eyes and huff as she holds out a box of crayons.

"I don't appreciate being treated like a child. I'm 21 not 4," I mutter before knocking the crayons out of her hand and onto the floor.

Lisa raises an eyebrow at me before speaking. "Until you're checked out of this place, you have no say on how I treat you. Now, about that picture..."

"Not happening."

"Your loss, Grumpy-Pants." she shrugs before walking out of the room and closing the door behind her. Sighing in relief, I take a pen and piece of paper out of nightstand by my bed. Might as well right another one. I have an hour to waste in this room after all...

I grab the book I've been using as a writing surface. It's called The Blur. Apparently it's a very well written book, but I haven't really found the time to read it. I'm not much of a fan of sappy love stories anyways. I have heard rumors that it's author isn't human, but I can't keep my hopes up. The author has an all-too human name to be an alien. Shaking my head, I click the pen and begin to write.

Dear Nobody,

I don't know...

I finish the letter just in time for Lisa to knock on the door, "It's breakfast time~" her coo was muffled by the metal door. I groan quietly before hiding the pen in my drawer, not wanting to go through the trouble of finding another one. Lisa walks in with the smile and nods for me to leave the room. Since I was fairly sane, my room was close by the lobby. It's a habit of mine to peak out the window separating me from the "normal" people in the lobby. I look into the usually bland, lifeless lobby and my eyes widen in surprise. There was an actual person sitting in there! A thin guy with a beard stood at the receptionist desk, pen in hand, writing something on a paper. He's kinda cute...

"Let's go, Preston," Lisa growls in annoyance, grabbing my arm and pulling me away from the window.

"Here," I say with a smile, handing the receptionist back the paperwork.

"Thank you," She pauses to take a look at the papers. "Mr. Latsky. You'll be starting right away!" She smiles before handing me a badge. My eyes widen in surprise at how sudden her actions were.

"Really? Now?"

"Of course! We don't get many volunteers, and when we do the patients aren't around." She sighs softly and hands me a clipboard when I finish pinning the badge to my shirt.
