~*Mat*~

I've learned a lot within the few days Brandon and I have been here. Rob is a prince, Preston is wanted for murder, and all of these people are rebelling against some empire that wants to take over everything. The only information I actually liked was the "Rob is a prince" part. Everything else is too dark to even think about. I still remember when I first met Preston. Back when he had an undying hatred for everything that lived and breathed.

+Flash Back+

I'm lead down a hallway by some volunteer I haven't met yet. She was looking over her shoulder at me every so often, as if she was expecting me to do something other than what I was told. I get that I'm crazy, but I'm not that crazy...

"Alright," she says letting out a sigh, "Just go into this room right here. There is a nice man who wants to be your friend!" There was a smile on her face.

"Really? I didn't think anyone knew I was in here," I comment as she opens the door for me. I step inside and look over my shoulder as she closes the door.

"Good luck," She mutters before closing the door entirely. Leaving me in the dimly lit room with this person who wants to be my "friend."

"Lisa! For the last time I'm not going to draw you a-" My eyes widen as the man turns too look at me. "And who are you?" This guy doesn't seem very friendly...

"M-Mat," I manage to stutter out, "W-what's your name?"

"It's none of your business," He snaps before turning away from me, "Why do you care anyways?"

"I was just curious. You don't have to be rude about it." I cross my arms. I just want to go back into my room, lay in my bed, hold Susie close, and forget all about him...

"Whatever." The guy sighs and sits down on one of the chairs. He looks at me and raises an eyebrow. "What? Are you just going to stand there and waste my time, or are we going to talk?" I take a deep breath before walking over and sitting in the seat across from him.

"Why do you want to talk? I thought you didn't like me." The guy let's out a small chuckle and shrugs.

"You seem like an interesting guy Mat. May I ask, where'd you get that scarf? I thought they didn't let us take accessories in here." He reaches over and touches one of the ends of my scarf. The red scarf Brandon got me.

"Oh. My caretaker bought it for me." I say with a small smile, looking at the scarf.

"You're lucky dude. My caretaker has never given me anything. Wait, no. She's given me a stack of paper and a crayon. She wants me to draw her a picture." He sighs and runs a hand through his hair.

"A picture?"

"Yeah. She wants me to draw her a picture of what my home planet looks like." My eyes widen in interest.

"You're not human?"

"I don't think so..." His voice trails off slightly. "To think of it, I can't remember anything really. I don't even know if Preston is my actual name," he mumbles the second sentence quietly as he looks down at a small card in his hand. Probably his driver's license.

"Weird." Maybe this guy isn't so bad after all. He's just frustrated that he can't remember anything about himself. "Do you think that you might have amnesia?"

"Maybe." He rubs his chin. "But usually people with amnesia remember at lot more than basically nothing."

"Usually." Preston smiles slightly at my comment.

"You're pretty cool Mat. I don't see why we haven't met earlier."

"I've only been here for a week." His eyes widen in astonishment.

"And you're already getting gifts from your caretaker?! Can we trade?"

"No!" I say with a laugh, "And I don't think we can do that."

"Pfft! I've been here for almost a whole year now. I can pull some strings."

"I thank you for the offer, but I think I'm alright with mine." He pouts and slumps down in his chair, arms crossed. No wonder his caretaker treats him like a kid! He acts like one!

"Fine. Have it your way. I'll make sure that Amy won't give you desert for the next week!" I gasp sarcastically.

"You wouldn't dare!"

"Try me newbie," he says with a laugh, "I'm Amy's favourite."

"Whatever, she still won't let you do that."

"You don't know anything my dear friend," He says with a evil smirk. He called me his friend?! I have a friend?!

+Reality+

I shake my head when I hear someone call my name. "Hey, it's time to go buddy," Brandon says with a smile.

"Right." I flash him a smile before pulling my hood up.

"What were you thinking about?" He asks as we walk.

"The first time I met Preston." Brandon smiles fondly.

"I remember that day too. Honestly, I was worried that he would hurt you, but when you came back to your room with a big smile I knew you two would be the best of friends."

"Who wanted us to meet in the first place?"

"Some lady with a strange accent. She demanded that Preston needed to be friends with at least one of the other patients."

"I thought Preston didn't have any living family members."

"He doesn't." Brandon looks at me. "Or, that's what we know about human Preston."

"Let's go slowpokes! The prince can't save himself!" Lachlan, the tall blonde one, yells over his shoulder at us. I roll my eyes before running to catch up with the group.

My eyes snap open and I sit up. My eyes scan our surroundings, trying to figure out what woke me up. Everyone is still sleeping, and the fire has been out for hours. What woke me?

Taking a deep breath, I stand up and stretch my arms. Knowing me, it was probably nothing... I should go wake everyone up. We still have a ways to go.

I just worry about how we're going to save Rob when we get there. None of us have weapons....
