Katniss POV

"And what's a mutt like you going to do about it?" He spits at me. My knees give in, making me fall hard onto the ground. He looks at me with regret filling his eyes, but he's a good actor. He's a liar, but I already know I'm a mutt. I bring my hands to my ears, trying to scratch out the screams of lost children.

"I'm a mutt." I whisper to myself. "A stinking mutt. I deserve to be killed.

"My name is Katniss Everdeen.
I'm twenty years old.
My family is dead.
Peeta . . .
Peeta says I'm a mutt.
I believe him.
I'm a mutt.
A stinking mutt.
I killed everyone in District 12.
I killed Rue.
I killed Mags.
I killed Finnick.
I killed mother.
I killed father.
I killed Prim."

"It's not real!" Peeta yells at me.

"Peeta." I whisper, lifting my head head up and looking straight into his eyes. "Wake me up."

"I can't." He whimpers.

"Why?" I ask him, tears pouring down my cheeks. "You said it wasn't real!"

"I-I" He stutters, but hangs his head.

"You're a liar!" I scream, picking myself off the floor. "I killed them! I killed them all! It was my fault that you were hijacked! I should've eaten the berries! You should've won, and forgotten about me! You should've been the Mockingjay! You should've lived! Prim would be alive! Finnick would be alive! Boggs would be alive! Jackson would be alive! Everyone would have lived! I killed them, Peeta!"

"Stop saying that you killed everyone!" He yells at me, tears rolling down his cheeks. "Stop lying to yourself!"

"I'm not a liar, Peeta!" I scream, happy that Haymitch is holding him back. "You know that those deaths were my fault! Everyone knows those deaths were my fault!"

"Stop it!" He screams at me, trying to pull himself out of Haymitch's grasp.

"Why?" I spit at him. "You can't handle the truth of who I truly am? Violent. Distrustful. Manipulative. Deadly."

"Stop telling yourself lies, Katniss!" He yells at me, more tears rolling down his cheeks and onto the floor.

"I'm not the girl you fell in love with when we were 5, Peeta!" I yell. "You can't trust me, and I can't trust you. There's nothing you can do about it."

And at that moment, he breaks out of Haymitch's grasp, runs towards me, and kisses me full on the mouth.
