"Oi! Get up, Ebony!" Yells Joey from the hallway. I feel like my head just got run over by a truck I'm so tired. My nose is stuffed up too, but I'll be okay. I'm still recovering from the cold and Mum always tells me it always feels worse in the morning.
"Errrr nooo!" I whine, my door opens and I hear footsteps and then he jumps on top of me.
"It's 1:00 in the afternoon, you've been sleeping all day!" He says, bouncing on the foot of the bed.
"It's 1:00 in the afternoon?" I swear under my breath, I need to be at the LeBlancs for the game in half an hour.
"Yep," he says. "You know, you should think about getting ready. Caleb's downstairs, and so is Hayley. They're having lunch with us and then Katie's coming over and she'll pick you guys up to go to the game."
"What about Annie?" I ask sleepily.
"Oh, she's sick I'm pretty sure is what Caleb said."
"What?! I made her sick?! Crap!"
"Well, Mum's making lunch. We've been waiting for you for bloody ages, hurry up." With that, he jumps off my bed and his feet pitter patter out of my room. I hear him yell something to everyone in the kitchen as he's going down the stairs. I get out of bed and lazily wash my face. I check my phone to see the weather for today and it's supposed to be cloudy and forty degrees. It's officially fall now I guess...
I put on leggings and a gray sweater and knee high boots with gray socks. I fix my hair so that I don't look like I've just been electrocuted, and put in pearl earrings. I take out my makeup and look at it, trying to decide what to put on. I finally choose I'll do a grayish purplish smokey eye and pale pink lip gloss.
Once I'm satisfied with my makeup, I head downstairs. "Hey Ebby!" Says Mum as I walk into the kitchen.
"Hey Ebonayyy!" Says Hayley, and then laughs at herself.
I giggle, "hey Mummayyy, hey Haylayyy!" Hayley is hysterical.
"Hey bubs," says Caleb, he's wearing his baseball outfit. "You look adorable."
"G'mornin bubs, so do you," I say, sitting between Hayley and Caleb. I take his blue cap off his head and put it on mine.
"Now you look even more adorable," he says. I laugh and kiss him on the cheek.
"You guys have to play baseball while Joey and I get to so shopping at Target," brags Hayley.
"Wow, aren't you lucky," I say, giggling. Then I turn to Caleb, "did I make Annie sick?" I ask, concerned.
"It's not your fault, Eb," he says.
"Oh God, I'm so sorry! Are you feeling okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Annie just woke up with a fever and a cough this morning," he says.
"Crap, that's exactly what I had."
"It's okay Ebony, nobody's angry at you."
"Okay," I say. But I still feel incredibly guilty and stupid. It's not fair that Annie can't come to the game.
We eat breakfast and Caleb, Hayley, Joey and I head to the LeBlanc's house where Katie is waiting in the car. On the ride to the field where we'll be playing, Caleb refreshes how to play baseball in my mind. I've got a pretty good idea of how to play by the time we're pulling in. Katie drops us off in the parking lot and pulls away with Joey and Hayley to go shopping.
It's windy out, the wind goes right through my thin jacket. I wrap my hands around my arms and try to keep from shivering, because I know if I do Caleb will begin questioning whether I should play or not. As we enter the field I see Caleb's coach and teammates, along with a ton of other kids all around our age. I spot Kurt and Alex. That's where Caleb and I head first.
"Hey man," says Kurt. "Hello Ebony, how do you do?" He asks in a mock British accent. He still hasn't gotten over that I'm from England, constant 'tea and crumpet' jokes. I just go with it. It doesn't bother me.
"I'm fine, thank you." I say, giving him a quick hug.
"Hey Ebony," says Alex.
"Hey," Caleb and I say.
"This is my brother Jacob," Alex says to me, his hands on the shoulders of a boy who looks has similar features to Alex.
"Hi," says Jacob.
"Hello! I'm Ebony, how old are you?"
"Twelve," he says quietly.
"Great! It's nice to meet you!" I say, he smile in response and then nods a hello to Caleb.
"This is my boyfriend Tyler!" Says Kurt, grinning. A lanky boy with a haircut similar to Kurt's comes out from the dugout,
"Hello! I'm Ebony!" I say.
"Oh my God!! Kurt is this her?!?!" Tyler says, his hands on his cheeks in excitement.
"Yes, that's the girl from England," says Kurt, grinning.
"Oh my God! Hey Ebony, I'm Tyler!" He declines my outstretched hand and throws his arms around me into a tight hug.
"Oh," I say, stumbling backward. He pulls away still grinning from ear to ear.
"You're so adorable!" He says, "and your hair is frigging to die for babe!" I run my fingers through my hair consciously.
"Oh, thank you!" I say, sniffling and quickly wiping the back of my hand across my nose incase there's any visible snot. Gross. Nobody wants to be friends with a snotty girl, Ebony.
"Well, well, well," says a cold voice behind me. I whip my head around and see exactly who I feared the voice belonged to: Kenzie.
