"I set fireeeee, to the rain!!"

"Watch it buuuurn!!"

Evan and I decided to burn the book in his backyard so that he may process homosexuality and its naturality honestly. It was easing to the brain to see him finally coming to terms the humanity of me being gay. I think kissing him was the way to help him see that.

I'm not saying smooch every straight guy friend that you have, just introduce them to your lifestyle and let them decide whether they can properly handle it or not.

But don't listen to me. I'm not a fucking psychoanalyst.

We stood some feet away from the fire pit in the backyard and watched as the homophobic pages went up in flames. My green eyes watched as the fire engulfed the paper in its ferocity and transform the product into ash.

It got silent between us, but it wasn't an awkward silence. It was more like a ceremonial silence. Like, we were at a funeral of some sort. Maybe this is an ode to Evan's former self. The book symbolized his insecurities, hatred, and misconception towards the idea of being gay.

But what the fuck am I saying? It's just a fucking book burning!

"Hey Evan, you mind giving me a ride back to school," I asked while still watching the fire dance in its containment. His body shuffled in my direction and I felt the serene energy change in the atmosphere.

"Why the fuck you wanna go back to school? I thought you wanted to skip for the rest of the day!"

I finally took my eyes off the scene and met his. He was obviously pissed at my decision, "I do! I just want to see Kyle and everyone else, that's all."

"Ugh, fine. Let me get my keys and we can go."

I followed him back into his house and he ran upstairs to his room. I waited for him in the living area, where his parents were chatting casually. I found it odd how Evan looks like his Dad but his genetics came from his Mom.

"So, Evan and you, huh?"

My eyes whipped to the source of a masculine, intimidating voice that had a tint of a European accent. I couldn't place where it was from, however.

Evan's Dad stared me down with the harshest of gazes and it almost made me piss my jeans. Those piercing brown eyes were almost black, and they were dangerous. His short blonde hair was professionally gelled back and his tight, black pristine suit clung to his dominating figure. Even though he was sitting, it was obvious he was built bigger than me.

"I-I'm sorry?"

I stiffened in the presence of such an idol, "You two. You're dating now?"

"Oh no, sir! Absolutely not! My fiancé is Kyle Collins! And Evan's not gay!"

Trust me, I know.

"Gavin, you don't have to cover it up," Mrs. Simms spoke nonchalantly. But her next words confused me all the more, "We already know Evan is gay."

"It's Gabriel, ma'am. But what do you mean you already-"

Evan came back downstairs before I had the chance to finish my question. The awkwardness in the room was noticeable and the subject of our discussion eyeballed us mercilessly.

"What's going on in here?"

I opened my mouth to speak but Mr. Simms responded confidently with his lie before sound could escape my lips, "Nothing, Jonathan. Just a business transaction."

Damn, he's good.

"Oh. Okay," he shrugged it off and looked at me. I gulped to swallow the lump in my throat, "You ready?"
