“Oh I’m Liam. Liam Jenkins,” he said with a sly smile on his face.
Liam Jenkins… I can’t help but feel as if that name sounded so familiar. Whatever, probably a celebrity. I turned to look at him as I drove.
“I’m Ga-“
He interrupted me, “Oh, everyone knows who you are, Gabriel Knight,” I frowned a bit. Of course, if we went to the same school, he would know me. Everyone on this side of Los Angeles knows the Knight Family. We practically own the west side, and our name is everywhere.
The Knight Family, multimillionaires. The master of the family, business tycoon, Sebastian Lee Knight. One of many California’s governing council members and business man. Accountant. Brings in a yearly eight figure salary and owns seventy percent of west Los Angeles. The mistress of the family, master at law, Janine Giselle West. The highest profiting Prosecutor and District Attorney. Maxing out at a groundshaking ninety-two percent conviction rate, and an unstoppable defense rate. Bringing in a yearly seven figure salary and owns twelve percent of west L.A. Then finally, there’s the heir to the Knight Fortune, Gabriel Allan Knight, or me. Star quarterback of Livingston High School, teen idol. Destined to fame.
And that’s usually what people on the West side know about me and my family.
“Well that’s cool. Saves the time for introduction,” I said, not trying to be rude. It’s just irritating how I’m the most known teenager in school. I turned back to look at the road, but my iPhone 6 started blasting “Sexy And I Know It” by LMFAO. It was my best friend’s ringtone, and he personally set it himself. I answered, “Hey! What’s up?!”
“Gabriel, dude,” he sounded excited on the other end, “I’m at school and guess who I run into!”
I chuckled and sighed, “Let’s see, Ariana Grande?”
“Don’t you bullshit me, Gabe! Take a serious guess!”
“Is it someone we know?”
“Oh yeah! We haven’t seen him since freshman year! Y’know, Mr. Study-Abroad-And-Leaves-His-Best-Friends-Behind.”
My face lit up, and I couldn’t help but to smile. So the rumors were true. The former King of Livingston High has returned. The former King, my rival, but my best friend all together. I spoke into the phone, “Evan, stall him for me. I’ll be there in five minutes!”
“Alright! Hurry up!”
The call ended, but the smile on my face didn’t. The only thing I could do, was smile like an idiot. I couldn’t believe he was back at Livingston, well, back in Los Angeles at all! Kyle Collins, Kyle –motherfucking- Collins, has entered the building. This is certainly going to make for an interesting year. With me being the King of Livingston now, I hope he doesn’t plan on taking his throne back. I chuckled aloud and just pushed the thought out of my mind.
“Something good happen,” Liam asked.
I wouldn’t lie about the news, so I told, “Yeah! A really good friend of mine, who I haven’t seen in a couple of years, is reenrolling at Livingston. I can’t wait to see him,” I thought about what I’d do. Give him a fist bump? Nah. Run up and hug him? Nah. I just don’t know yet, “Did you know Kyle Collins?”
