Tonight, prom.
Next month, graduation.
It felt like everything led up to this. To this point of where everyone was finally happy in their lives. Sure, we had to lose a few friendships, but it felt like everything was worth it in the end. I was with Gabriel, and that was honestly the only thing I cared about. Nothing else, no one else.
I was sitting in the exquisite limo in my suit and suspenders and I had just finished sending a text to Gabe letting him know that Holly, Bridgette, and I were on our way to pick him up.
Everyone looked absolutely stunning. Holly stunned in a pink, bedazzled, long mermaid styled gown and high pink heels. Her blonde hair fell past her shoulders in a lengthy, wavy style but the pearl earrings she wore stood out in the light. She had light gloss on her lips and gentle blush on her cheeks. Soft mascara on her long eyelashes and bright eyeliner to define those blue irises.
Bridgette was the most feminine she has ever been. She wore a sleek, black dress with a high slit coming up to her thigh with black heels to complete. Her brown hair was short and wavy that hung off the sides just below the ears, but her black earrings dangled low enough to be seen. She never wore makeup and tonight was a different. Just a little eyeliner, just a little lip gloss, but she was beautiful nonetheless.
And their dates, were the most boring pieces of human meats I've ever met.
Holly leaned on her date's shoulder longingly, gripping the sleeve of his black tuxedo jacket as if she was holding on to something important. Bridgette wrapped her arm around her girl's neck, holding her close. And there was me.
Sitting across from them, hogging all the free champagne to myself. Not that I drank or anything, but I needed to in order to ignore them until Gabe got in this damn limo so I wouldn't feel like a fifth wheel anymore.
"So," I started, my voice a little excited from the alcohol content within it, "It was nice of Gabe to rent a limo for all of us to ride in."
"Yeah," Holly replied, sitting up and taking a flute of bubbly, "I guess Gabriel Knight isn't so bad."
"Well, duh. It's why I'm dating him," I retorted, rolling my eyes playfully.
Bridgette chuckled and instigated with a rebuttal, "Well, you do have good taste in men, but let's not forget your ex-boyfriend."
"That name is forbidden to be spoken of until after prom," I declared, shutting down her comments right then and there. There was no way I was going to let that name change my mood for this night. This was prom. Senior prom. I wasn't interested in spending it talking about that other boy.
"Whatever you say, bottom boy," Bridgette smirked and caused all of us to laugh. I waved them off and started staring out of the tinted windows.
All of the fancy two, three story houses told me we were on Gabe's side of town. My body perked up and I got excited, getting ready for my boyfriend to join us. I felt like a schoolgirl about to kiss a boy for the first time, I lost all control over my behavior. I was an excited puppy waiting for his owner.
But something wasn't... right.
A trio of police cars sped by us, coming from Gabe's street. I prayed out loud that nothing was going to ruin my prom night. But it felt like God wasn't answering prayers tonight.
The limo pulled and stopped on a grim scene. Three people stood on the Knight property, deep in argument. None of them were particularly dressed for prom. I pulled out my phone and sent a quick text to Gabe saying that we're here. I also threw in that his parents were arguing with a cop outside on the front lawn and he should come out and stop them.
