I watched as Gabriel stormed out of the cafeteria, followed closely behind by Evan. I watched, and couldn't help but to notice the PDA between him and Kyle. They looked so good together, and it tugged mercilessly at my heartstrings. So, this was the outcome of what I caused... of pushing him into Kyle's arms.
Ugh... I am such a dumbass...
I lowered my head a little and started back to my table, but I was stopped in my tracks. A hand placed oh, so delicately on my shoulder. It was gentle, it was warm, and it gave me shivers. Only one person has ever me feel that way, and it made a smile creep on my lips. He came back for me?
"Gabriel," I whispered, turning around slowly and looking at the person in his crystal blue eyes. A chuckle escaped me when I realized how wrong I was. I rolled my eyes playfully and and smirked while I changed my attitude, "Oh. It's you."
"Sorry for not being him," he said bluntly, walking me back to my table. I casually took my seat and still felt his body temperature radiating from behind me. I looked back at him and eyeballed him, "Mind if I take a seat?"
"I don't care."
He sat in Gabriel's old seat, across from me. I tried my best to avoid eye-contact with this guy, but every time my eyes stole a glance at him, he was looking right at me. A slouched down in my seat, trying to cover the blush that started brightening my cheeks.I started to chant a storm of swear words under my breath. Apparently, I was louder than I thought since I caught the attention of the whole damn table and neighboring tables.
I warranted concern from Holly, "Uhm, are you okay?"
My eyes perked up, jetting straight to Holly- who stared at me like I was going mental, "Yeah. Why do you ask?"
"Well, first you cause a scene on your first day back to school, then you start swearing like you're a sailor! This isn't the Liam Jenkins I know!"
"Because I'm not the same 'Liam Jenkins' that you once knew. I'm different. I've changed."
"We can all see that, Liam," Bridgette chimed in, motioning to our entire table, "but we're worried if this changed is actually a good thing. I mean, c'mon. The old Liam would've never stirred the school so much!"
"The old Liam is dead, and you guys need to get that through your heads! That Liam died in that hospital bed because he wasn't strong enough to survive. But this Liam," I stood up, like I was giving a presentation. My friends' eyes were on me and I felt so much courage surge through my body like electricity flowing through water. I was on a roll and there was no way possible I was going to let anyone stop me or slow me down, "this Liam is the epitome of being born again! Like a phoenix rising from the ashes! I am unstoppable!"
"Yeah okay, now sit your 'born-again' ass down! You're drawing attention to yourself again," Holly forcefully whispered to me. I looked around the cafeteria and saw the majority of eyes staring me down. I coughed awkwardly and slowly lowered myself to my chair.
I didn't care, I still felt powerful.
"So, aaaanyway," Bridgette started, changing the subject, "Zach! How have you been enjoying Livingston so far?"
"It's been pretty chill. Everyone's been nice to me so far."
"That's great-"
"Found any cute girls you like yet," Holly asked bubbly, cutting off Bridgette in the process. I laughed wholeheartedly at the death glare she shot at our blonde friend. I turned to find humor in Zachary's reaction as well, but he just chuckled lightly under his breath. Once he caught me looking at him, I jerked my head away and stared at the floor.
