Girl who takes forever say whatttt??? Haha! It's been like a day and I already uploaded! That's right! I was going to wait a little bit but since I finished this a bit earlier, I thought I'd just uploaded instead of making you guys wait. I decided to keep with the pattern of alternating POVs so yes, this is Jed's. You will find more about Cara and her date in the next part :) Enjoy!
Jedidiah
Once both Leah and I grew tired, I dragged her back to my house. Not that she was resisting or anything. She seemed so weak and tired that she must’ve had no energy to go against me. And honestly, I wouldn’t let her escape my grasp this time.
A gasp escaped my mother’s lips when I brought her home, and Leah was presented to her for the first time. Not a great first impression by any means, but better to bring her now with a decent face than to have her even more beat up later.
“Well, hello,” my mom seemed unsure of what to say.
My dad popped up behind her. He looked shocked, but unlike my mom, hid it well.
“You must be Leah,” my dad said, smiling.
Leah nodded, standing behind me timidly. I had the urge to wrap my arms around her tightly and never let go.
“Um, what’s up?” my mom asked, looking confusedly at me.
“Can Leah stay here for awhile?” I asked without hesitation. Even if they disagreed, I would somehow stay by her side.
My parents looked at one another.
“Leah, honey, come with me. I’ll get you some fresh sheets.” My mom beckoned her over and gingerly took her arm, pulling her along upstairs.
Once they left, my dad’s gaze turned to me. “I hope this isn’t a permanent thing.”
“Dad, she’s my mate,” I said, feeling the need to rush up there with Leah. I tried to calm my nerves.
“Jedidiah, be reminded that she is a human and doesn’t feel the same effects. It’s a good thing that you want to help her, but she needs to cope on her own.”
“I can’t let her go back there,” I said, looking determined.
“And she’ll be able to stay here,” he said. “But not for long.”
“I don’t see why not.” I frowned at him.
“Jed, unless she knows and can accept you for her mate, you may be harming her more than helping her. We can report the family if you want, but there’s not much we can do.”
I shook my head. “Leah is my responsibility and she will always be. There’s no way I’m letting her out of my sight.”
My mom appeared, sighing. “Will you two be quiet, the girl is trying to get some rest.”
I looked apologetic, knowing I might’ve been too loud. Listen to me. I feel so whipped. But it doesn’t really sound too bad, considering the girl is Leah.
“Look Jed, she can stay here for as long as she thinks is necessary. With that said, it’s her choice and you can’t hold her back.”
“Those people are monsters!” I protested, feeling my blood boil thinking about those people.
My mom nodded, understandingly. “Honey, Leah is at a fragile state and knowing she has some past issues with werewolves, living with them won’t help her too much. Just give her time to adjust and like your father said, if she can accept the race and especially you, she’s more than welcome to stay. However, know that you must think of her mental health with all this.”
Even though I didn’t want to consider it, my parents were right. Right now, she’s going through a crisis and staying with her most hated race might not help the situation. I could only hope she could understand where I come from and that all my intentions are good.
“Can I go see her?” I asked, rubbing my eyes.
My mom nodded.
I rushed upstairs without another word.
As I passed Cara’s room, I realized she wasn’t home from her date yet.
I went to the end of the hall to the guest room. I slid the slightly ajar room open and tip toed in.
Leah’s back was facing me. Her breathing seemed slow. She must be asleep by now.
I smiled, coming over and kneeling down beside the bed. Leah twisted, suddenly turning to me. She was still sleeping however.
Her sleeping face looked so peaceful, as if today’s events never happened. I wish she could always be this peaceful.
Gently, I brushed a stray hair behind her ear, lingering on her soft, porcelain skin.
“Leah,” I murmured.
In her sleep, Leah started to whimper, crushing my heart. She must be having some nightmare. Not knowing what else to do, I took her hand, giving it a slight squeeze. Instantly, she calmed, going back to her once peaceful state. I felt happy knowing unconsciously she was comfortable with me.
Not to be a creep, but the whole night, I stayed by the bedside, watching her. Her breaths were slow and somewhat even. Sometimes, though, her heart beat would race and she’d start whimpering. All I’d do is give her hand a little squeeze and she’d go back to normal.
Feeling daring, I leaned over and placed a soft kiss on her forehead, lingering my lips there before pulling away reluctantly. This girl is going to be the death of me.
Cue the awwwsss!!!! In my opinion, this was a pretty sweet chapter... Well bitter sweet.... Hopefully you guys liked it :)
