Yay, another upload! Woot woot!!! So the next upload will be the turning point of the story :) Enjoy!
Jedidiah
When I woke up, it wasn’t because of a particular noise or smell that awoke me. No, it was that gut feeling you get when you know something’s up. I shot up and rushed over to the room where Leah had been staying last night. My stomach muscles tightened to see the room was empty. In fact, it looked like no one had been there in the first place. The sheets and blanket were neatly folded. It was if last night was just a dream, a figment of my imagination. But I knew better, last night had happened and Leah was harmed.
Hurriedly, I went back to my room and hastily threw on clothes before stomping down the stairs. I appeared in the kitchen.
“Mom, I’m going to go out and-“
The words died in my throat as I saw Leah helping my mom with making breakfast. Both looked at me strangely, clearly amused.
“In a rush, Jed?” my mom asked, peering at me. I looked down and noticed that was shirt was inside out and that my socks were different colors. I looked back at my mom sheepishly, then turning my gaze to Leah.
“I thought she left,” I said slowly.
Leah looked flush as I had suddenly brought the attention on her.
My mom smiled beside her. “This young lady here woke up early and was making a ruckus trying to find the things to make breakfast.”
Leah put her head down.
“Oh honey, it was very thoughtful of you,” my mom assured her. “There’s no harm in waking us up a few minutes early. My husband is still dead asleep as you can see so it’s absolutely fine.”
My mom looked at me shortly before turning away to finish cooking the breakfast.
I walked over to Leah and put my hand on her chin, tilting her head up.
“You okay?” I asked softly.
She nodded, but I could see the pain in her eyes. I stared at her wounds, feeling myself feeling her pain as well.
“Thank you,” she mouthed. I nodded, letting go of her chin. The close proximity made me want to kiss her senseless, but the action wasn’t appropriate at a time like this.
Someone cleared their throat behind us. I turned and saw Cara, her eyebrows raised and her hands on her hips.
“What’s up?”
I stepped to the side and allowed Cara to see Leah fully. Quickly, she was at her side, her face full of concern.
“Oh my gosh, are you okay?” She gently placed her hand on Leah’s cheek.
However mean of an act Cara may put up, she is naturally a caring and nice person.
“I’m fine,” Leah said, her voice weak and hoarse.
“Car, why don’t you lend Leah some clothes and then come back down for some breakfast.”
My sister nodded and led Leah upstairs.
“Jed, she’s fine,” my mom said without looking at me. “She’s strong.”
I nodded to myself. “I know.”
“Good, now set the table.”
I did as I was told and set the table. By the time I finished, Leah and Cara was back down. In Cara’s clothes, Leah practically drowned in them. Not to say Cara was fat, but she was definitely taller and more filled out than Leah and she looked so much smaller in the clothes. So weak and vulnerable it tore my heart apart.
“I smell food!”
My dad appeared and took a seat at the table.
“Take a seat, Leah,” my dad said, nodding to the seat across from me and next to Cara. Gingerly, Leah nodded and took a seat.
My mom set plates in front of everyone. “Enjoy, Leah helped make this.”
“Thanks Leah,” we all chorused, which made her blush.
For the time being, she was fine, and that was all that mattered to me.

“You’re leaving?”
I asked Leah as I saw her walking towards the front door. It had only been the 3rd day since Leah left her abusive home, and in my opinion, too early to come back.
Leah turned around slowly. She smiled softly at me. “Thanks for everything you and your family have done. But I don’t belong here.”
“Of course you do!” I protested. “You’re welcomed to stay here as long as you need. Please don’t go.”
I was ready to go on my knees just to beg her not to leave.
She shook her head. “I have to go back.”
“You can’t! They abuse you, I can’t let something happen to you again.”
“Jed, you’re an amazing guy, I’ll give you that. I’m so sorry for hating on you when we first met. But I think it’s time for us to separate. I don’t belong with you guys. I know they hurt me, but they’re family and I belong there.”
“You don’t,” I hissed. “You belong here. You with belong close to me.”
She looked at me sadly. “I already said my goodbyes to everyone else. Bye Jed.”
She turned to leave, opening the door and stepping out.
“No wait!” I shouted, running after her. “Please don’t go.”
“I can’t stay here, I have to go back,” she said, her eyes filling up with tears.
I shook my head. “You belong with me. You’re my mate,” I blurted.
Her whole figure froze and she tensed up. The air around us was so thick, a knife could slice through it. Silence passed us and no one moved or spoke a word. Leah was the one to break the silence.
“I’m sorry,” she sobbed. “I will never accept you. I hate you.”
With those fatal words, she pulled her arm away and walked away, never looking back. Never taking those words back.
It felt like I had my heart ripped out, and stabbed and stepped on. I wonder if this pain would ever go away.
*tears up* Does anyone have a tissue? Thoughts?
