Chapter 5
Megan
I awoke to the delicious aroma of pancakes, waffles, and bacon. My mouth watered instantly.
I sat up and looked around the room. The curtains were still shut, but a moment later, Alyssa danced into the room and opened them. Sunlight flooded the room.
"Rise and shine, beautiful!" she sang.
"Morning, Alyssa," I answered, getting up.
"Hi, gorgeous. How'd you sleep?" she asked worriedly.
I looked at my feet in answer.
"I've had better dreams," I muttered.
"Well, it's a good thing you didn't eat too much, or you would've been in the bathroom. Which reminds me, I have to clean your brother's bathroom," Alyssa answered, wrinkling her nose.
I knew she was just trying to cheer me up, and it worked.
"Again?" I asked.
"Yup. I'm surprised it's not too bad though. I should probably make him clean it, though," she said thoughtfully.
I chuckled. Even though my brother and his girlfriend were adults with steady jobs, they had the relationship of children sometimes. They had been together for five years and Daniel had told me he planned to propose to her on their six year anniversary. I knew Alyssa would love the proposal because I had helped him pick the place and managed the details that I could.
"He made the mess," I said with a grin.
"True. I'll make him clean it," Alyssa decided.
I laughed.
Alyssa was my brother's girlfriend, but like a sister to me. We were best friends and told each other everything. Alyssa and Danny didn't live together, but she was over a lot. They wanted to get an apartment together but hadn't found any days they both had off. Alyssa was working later this afternoon.
Before I could answer, someone walked in and interrupted me.
"Yo, where's the other bathroom? Daniel's not getting out," the person said.
"Megan, can he use the bathroom in this room?" Alyssa asked me.
The boy turned around and my heart went into overdrive.
"Sure. I'll eat breakfast first," I got out competently.
"Thanks, Stewart," he said happily.
"Uh, you're welcome." It came out like a question.
He left to go take a shower and I walked out into the kitchen, confused.
"Breakfast?" Alyssa asked.
"Yes, please."
I put him out of my mind and wolfed down the bacon, pancakes, and waffles. The food was delicious and after I had finished my plate, I was stuffed. I accidentally burped, loud.
"Was it it good?" Alyssa asked, amused.
I smiled sheepishly.
"Yes, thank you," I answered as I placed the dishes in the sink.
"Of course, but you already know that. You should change, by the way. We're going out today," Alyssa said.
"We?"
"The four of us. The boys wanted to join when I told them about the plans earlier this morning. Someone else picked up my shift for today because they needed another day off."
