Chapter 11
Jared
"Oh my god! That's gross!" Megan shouted, closing her eyes.
I resisted the urge to laugh. I mean, it was funny, but it would've been dangerous to laugh. After all, it was Megan Stewart. She probably would've hit me if I laughed.
"It's the prologue," I told her. "It's not even the actual beginning."
We were sitting on the couch, but rather than sitting on separate ones, Megan and I were on one, and Daniel and Alyssa were on another. We had eaten dinner a while ago and decided to watch the movie as Megan had wanted to play in the dark later on.
"Oh, shut up Jared! It's still freaky," she answered.
I chuckled.
For a while, Megan didn't say anything, but when there was a gruesome death, she practically screamed. Megan shut her eyes and practically dove into me. Her head was on my shoulder, and she clutched my hand, intertwining our fingers. Megan tightened her hand around mine. I had a feeling she was still flipping out a little.
"It's over," I whispered in her ear.
I turned towards Danny and Alyssa, but what I saw made me smirk.
Alyssa was in Danny's lap, and her head was on his shoulder. Her eyes were shut and she was clutching his hand, while her other hand was clenched into a tight fist. Danny had his free hand wrapped around Alyssa.
It seemed as if both Megan and Alyssa didn't handle scary movies too well.
"It's over, right?" Megan asked quietly.
"Yeah, you can look now," I answered.
Megan lifted her head to watch the movie, but she kept our hands intertwined. I didn't mind at all. She looked down at our hands, and then at me. I smirked, but didn't let go, and she didn't either.
When we got to another gruesome scene, Megan tightly clutched my hand. She shut her eyes tight. I had a feeling she was clenching her teeth, trying not to scream.
"Are you okay? I asked.
"Just tell me when it's over," she whispered back.
A few minutes later, the scene was finally over. I looked at Megan and saw her eyes were still shut. I felt my lips curl up into a smile.
"You can open your eyes now," I told her.
When Megan opened her eyes, she and I locked gazes. Her eyes didn't show any emotion other than curiosity, but they let slip another emotion. I didn't really catch it, but I thought it was... desire?
I broke away, turning back to the movie. I was aware of how close Megan and I were. Our hands were still intertwined, but a little loosely now. Megan was closer than before. I could feel her leg against my thigh.
When the movie was over, I heard Megan sigh. She looked relieved now that the movie was over. I expected her to let go of my hand, but surprisingly, she didn't. Not that I minded.
"Okay, then. Now that we watched the scary movie, how about we take a little breather and then get to playing?" Alyssa asked us.
I nodded and saw Megan and Daniel nodding as well.
Megan slipped her hand out of mine, got up, and headed to the kitchen. I got up, too, and stretched. I wasn't used to sitting, or someone cutting off my circulation, frequently.
I walked into the kitchen, wanting a glass of water. When I arrived, I saw Megan sitting on the island, a box of Chinese food in her hand. So that was why she had wanted to save the rest of her food, I thought.
