Chapter 13

Megan

I woke up to sunlight slipping through the curtains and into my room. I felt a warm presence, so I tuned and snuggled into it as a reflex. I kept snuggling into it until I realized it was a body. My eyes snapped open.

Even though the person was wearing a black shirt, I could tell they had a hard chest. Using only my eyes, I looked up and to the side. Muscular arms, but not overly muscular. One arm was wrapped around my waist, and the other intertwined with my arm. I realized we were holding hands.

I carefully pulled back and saw the peaceful face of Jared. He was still asleep, and his hair fell slightly onto his forehead. I stared at him, confused, until the memories of last night came rushing back to me. A smile worked its way onto my face as I remembered how we fell asleep.

Just as I was about to untangle myself from Jared, he opened his eyes. I froze, surprised and nervous. But then Jared smiled, causing me to relax.

"Good morning Sleeping Beauty," he teased.

His morning voice was quite attractive.

"Good morning, my beast," I answered, smiling.

"What time is it?" Jared asked.

"I'm not sure. Let me check," I told him, turning to grab my phone off of the bedside table.

I felt Jared's arm pull me back once I grabbed my phone. I smiled and turned my head to look back at him. He simply stared back.

"How'd you sleep?" he asked.

"I've never slept better," I told him honestly.

I had slept free of nightmares and not once did I feel an urge to wake up. It was the best I had slept in years. That included the years I would sleep with my mom when the dreams got really bad.

"Are you sure?" Jared asked.

"Yes, Jared, I'm sure," I answered, playfully rolling my eyes. "By the way, it's nine-thirty."

"Good. I have enough time," he replied.

"What do you mean?" I asked, my eyebrows pinching together.

"Nothing. I have to meet up with someone around 12, but there's enough time. I'd rather spend that time with you," he explained.

Jared nuzzled his face in my neck, earning a smile. I suddenly giggled when he went farther in. I turned and buried my head in his chest, wrapping an arm around him again. Jared pulled me closer to him.

"What's so funny?" he mumbled in my ear.

"Nothing. You kind of tickled me," I explained.

"You're ticklish everywhere," Jared complained.

His morning voice was sexy.

Damn it, Megan. You're losing it, I thought.

"Only with you," I retorted.

"Hm. Is that right, now?" he teased.

"Yup," I answered.

Remembering something, I sighed.

"What's wrong?" he asked.
