My mother nearly chokes on her olive "I beg your pardon?" She says putting her hand to her chest.

"Dean and I are married" I say again. Dean walks up next to me and laces his fingers with mine.

My dad speaks up "and you are just telling us now? We could have celebrated with everyone!" He cheers and saunters over to where we are to give us both a hug. Again, I accept with awkwardness to this affection and Dean does as well. He only knows what I've told him about my parents and this was never something I could have shared.

"You're married?" My mom asks to clarify.

"Yes." Dean says stepping closer "and we would like you both in our lives through this journey" He says.

I want to give him a weary look but he's in front of me so instead I change the topic "we think Paul should get to know his grandparents" is the only thing I can think to say.

Both of their eyes go wide with the news and I cover my mouth realizing what I just said. I didn't want to tell them about Paul just yet, especially after just dropping the bomb that I was married.

"Grandparents?" Charlotte says in a whisper. I could tell she didn't mean for it to come out that way but her shock was not letting more come out. "I am too young to be a grandparent! Hayden, what have you done!?" She says appalled "you got knocked up and then suckered the first decent man to come into your life since Charles into marrying you?" She accuses me harshly.

"Now hold on, that is not what happened." Dean goes to defend me.

I put my hand on his arm to stop him. I know he means well but I am okay with what she is saying, this is who I described my parents to be to him. This is what I expect from them and it doesn't really bother me anymore.

My dad steps to her "Honey, please. Take it easy."

"Don't you tell me to take it easy Martin!" She waves a finger in his direction "This is all your fault!" She raises her voice to him before storming out of the room.

We stand silently for a few minutes. Dean taking in the the ugliness of my mother and my mother impatiently waiting for enough time to pass before speaking up again. "Do you want to know his name?" I ask my dad aware that all he wants is information regarding his grandchild. He smiles to my question "Paul Abel Winchester." I tell him.

"Paul Winchester." He repeats it back to me "Now that's a leaders name if I've ever heard one!" He beams. I chuckle at his remark but deep down I feel saddened. There is still so much for Paul to overcome and he's still just a baby. I try and hide the fear from my own father and push forward with another conversation.

"Dad, I'm sorry we just showed up like this. Dean was very insistent" I look over to him.

"We really wanted to start our marriage off right and I feel like getting to know my in-laws is something that needed to be done." He explains to my father but I know he's still trying to defend himself to me.

I should let him off the hook just a little, it's not half as bad as I thought it would be. My father is a totally different person then when I left years ago. I wouldn't have thought he could ever behavior the way he is at this moment about having a grandchild.

My Dad steps closer to Dean to shake his hand "Well you are one fine man, Dean Winchester and my daughter is lucky to have found you. She was a lost cause there for awhile. Thank you for bringing her back."

Dean shakes his hand but my father pulls him in for a quick hug. I roll my eyes at the insult he added, thus reminding me that the father I knew is still there somewhere. Although most would be upset, I found comfort behind this. He's not a totally different person, he's just changed and grown, much like myself.
