"Dean, let's put Paul in the play pen. We have something to talk to you about" I say once Sam is standing with his hand to his side waiting.
Dean gives me a glare, knowing he won't like what we have to say. He puts Paul down and offers him his favorite toy. Paul takes it happily, showing a small toothy smile when taking it from his hands. "What is it?" He turns stubbornly, putting both hands on his hip.
"Well, when I went to Pastor Gideon, he was looking into something" I start. I want to drag it out and explain why we didn't tell him, but he's already impatient and annoyed, and the longer it takes, the more angry he will get "there's a woman who may know something about the mark. She's gotten a hold of a book that can be the answer to our problems."
"What?" He says speechless.
"We don't have much on her though" Sam steps up now to add on, "we looked into it, we came up with nothing. But we think this is a better, faster choice to get the Mark off Paul."
We watch as Dean process' the information we gave him. He registers anger quickly, his eyes brow creasing, making wrinkles appear on his forehead. I wait for him to explode and start yelling at us for keeping secrets but his eyes flare towards his son and I can see him breath through it, "alright.. Well, where do we go from here?" He says after his hits breathe.
Sam and I look at each other questionably, "well, we reached out to Cas and that's been a dead end so far. So.." Sam pauses.
"We should reach out to Crowley" I add on.
"Crowley?" Dean questions.
I nod, "he's the king of hell, he may be in hiding, but he might have some information. Everyone we reached out to knew nothing, he's our last resort" I explain.
Dean paces for a moment, occasionally shaking his head, "you really think he'll have some answers?" He asks, already knowing our response. We both nod, "then we'll ask him" he nods affirming the idea. He pulls out his phone and dials Crowley.
"What do you want squirrel?" We hear him over the speaker phone.
Dean grumbles in return, "we need to meet"
Crowley laughs lowly, "I'm being hunted"
"We need to meet" Dean threatens deeper now, determined to make him understand.
"I don't care what you need Winchester" he drags out the last name, "I have needs as well, and I need to stay alive"
"Crowley" Dean barks back, his hand gripping the phone tightly.
"Get a burner phone, I'll give you coordinates" the accented man caves easily before hanging up the phone on him.
Dean huffs as he thrusts the phone on his pocket. Sam leaves the room to grab one of the many phones they have stored away. I go to my bag and grab the photo of the woman I've been studying. Her face becoming darker and darker in my mind each time I look at it, "here" I say offering the photo. He takes it from my hand and looks at it intently.
"This is her?" He asks? Still looking at the photo.
"Yup" I simply say.
"Well she better be ready to give us some answers" he grunts before throwing the photo down. Sam walks in the room then with the phone powered on. He offers it to Dean who texts Crowley's number. Within a few minutes he responds with coordinates to his location.
Sam and and Dean wanted to leave right away, but I argued. I didn't want Dean to go, he's been doing so well trying to stay away from hunting, I don't think it's a good idea. I offered to go instead, but Dean knew it has to be him, he had to get the answers from him. "Why don't we go, and Sam can stay and watch Paul?" I try one last tactic, if I'm with him, I can keep him on the right path. Dean just gave me a sideways glare, already giving me my answer. "Fine" I huff back defeated, "but be careful" I smile softly. The two of them go to their rooms to pack and I pick up Paul, following behind Dean.
When we get to the room Deans about done. He doesn't have any weapons to pack now so the bag looks light with clothes inside. "Don't worry H.. I'll be fine" he turns to me and wraps me in his arms with Paul nestled between the two.
I smell his familiar smell before apologizing about lying, "Dean, I'm sorry I lied. I really wanted to come to you with more answers. I didn't want you to have to do more work for this."
He breaths out a deep breath, but he doesn't tense up like he usually does when he's angry, "it's alright. I'm not happy you lied, but I'm still trying this innocent mind set thing. I forgive you" he says.
I look up to him then, startled by this, "I love you" is all I know to say.
"I love you, too" he says back before kissing me on the lips with controlled passion. After a few moments he pulls away and kisses Paul on the forehead, "I love you too, little hero" he says before grabbing his bag and leaving the room.
I put Paul down on the floor, letting him try to crawl around the already baby proofed room and say a quick prayer. "Lord, please be with Dean through this journey. Please allow him to overcome the dark and find Your light. Amen." I finish. Just as I finished I hear Paul. I look down to where he is and I could've sworn his hands were folded in prayer and the sound I heard was the word amen.
I smile towards my son and he smiles back, cooing when I offer to pick him up. We head back into the kitchen and I finish cleaning up anything that's left to clean. Dean and I text while he's on the road to Crowley's location. We know that's not where he's hiding but it's a start to get to him. He and Sam arrive there in under 10 hours and call me before entering. After 20 minutes of pacing, Dean calls me grunting, "friggen demon" he says once I answer the phone, "sent a goon to check us out, driving to the next spot now, 2 hours about" he explains.
"It's alright Dean, we'll find answers" I comfort him and reassure myself.
2 hours or so later Dean calls me, "you're not going to believe this" he says as soon as I pick up the phone before the word hello can escape my lips.
"WHAT?!" I basically shout into the phone.
"That woman in the photo.." He pauses "she's a witch" he finally adds.
"So Crowley knows her?" I question since we now have an answer.
"Better than that." He returns, "she's his mother!" He spills over the phone. Silence emits between the two services as I'm at a loss for words. "Hayden?" Dean finally speaks nervously.
"His mother?" I ask in a whisper. "Crowley's mother is a witch?" I say out loud more to self then to him.
"Guess so, we're on our way back so can explain more when I get home" he says, "just had to tell you we got something. We got something baby" he says, and I can tell he has a smile across his face through the way he says baby.
"Be safe, I love you" I say to him, trying to feel the same happiness that he's feeling.
