Chapter 41 - Forgive Me & Sting's Lightbulb

~Natsu POV~

I sit outside in the garden on the bench, resting my head on the palm of my hand as my facial features are fixed into a frown.

I've been out here a while in a pissed off mood, thinking about all the things I've done wrong in my life that have lead me to be who I am. It's as if no matter how hard I try to change, people don't see it.

Maybe I'm not destined to change.

I wanted to change for my mother, my sister and Lucy. I tried but she doesn't seem convinced at all. It hurts that the only person you love doesn't really trust you.

Then again, I don't blame her.

I'm so immersed into my own thoughts that I don't realise that I'm no longer sitting outside on the bench alone and that I have a blanket placed over me.

I looked over to my side only to see Lucy sitting next to me with a guilty expression. Instead of speaking to her, I go back to ignoring her, shrugging the blanket off my shoulders.

In the corner of my eye I see her expression drop slightly. I can't help but feel slightly guilty myself although I haven't really done anything...have I ?

"Natsu. I'm sorry." She says after a moment of silence. I keep my gaze fixed to the ground, still in a bad mood.

"Natsu, please. I do appreciate you trying to change and I've noticed that but you said you wouldn't lie to me and-"

"I didn't lie to you." I say in a deep, cold tone. I stand up walking over to the fence, kicking a rock lying in the grass. My back still facing Lucy.

"Natsu. You have to listen to me. Please. I even brought you some marshmallows." She hands the bag to me and temptation begins to take over me. I quickly snap out of my daze and go back to looking at the rock between my feet.

"Don't want them." I say, once again in a dark tone. It reminded me of the time I first met Lucy....well when I kidnapped her.

Lucy lets out an exasperated sigh. "Natsu will you just look at me for a second ! Please." I stubbornly ignore her and turn my back to her even more so that she's completely blocked out of my view.

I felt a hand grasp my shoulders, taking me off guard spinning me around. Immediately I was looking at two big beautiful brown that held a lot of pain in them. Or maybe I was looking at a reflection of my own eyes.

"Natsu. You've got to understand that I love you. I do trust you Natsu and I do trust the fact that you're changing into a nicer person. You also have to understand that of course it's hard for me to trust you Natsu ! You traded me for a bracelet !"

"Oh for goodness sake. How many times do I have to hear that story ?! I saved you didn't I ? I went to get you back didn't I ? So why the hell are you complaining ?!" I shout back, this time keeping my eye contact with her.

"But I got tortured thanks to you." She stated. The images immediately began coming back from that night.

I sighed not giving her an answer. She's right. I'm an asshole.

"Why are you keeping things from me again Natsu ?" She asked. I looked down onto the floor again not wanting to make eye contact.

"Lucy. I know what Sting and my dad are capable of. I don't want you caught in the middle of this. I have this completely under control but you have to promise me that you'll trust me. The last thing I want is to see you in pain Lucy. I've already had my family taken away from me...I don't want you to be next." My eyes slightly begin to brim with tears as my thoughts trailed back to that haunted night.

Lucy opens her mouth to speak before stopping herself and wrapping her arms around my neck, nuzzling her face in my chest.

"Natsu, I promise I'll trust you. But..who do you pick then? You or us ?" She asked.

"None. I have a plan. Hopefully it will work." Lucy's face brightened up slightly. "But let's not talk about Sting anymore. Let's talk about something happy ? How about we roast some marshmallows ?" I say snatching the bag out her hand smirking. A slight chuckle leaves her mouth.

"Of course." She replies as a small smile played on her lips before replaced by a frown. I raised my eyebrow in confusion.

Smack.

"Don't you ever ignore me like that again Natsu Dragneel." She said leaving a red mark on my cheek. Ouch.

"Y-yes Ma'am" I gulp taking the marshmallows back with a shaky hand afraid she'll hurt me again.

She laughs evilly as we sit around the BBQ beginning to roast the soft marshmallows.

What a perfect way to end the night.

~Sting POV~

"What do you mean he chooses nobody ?! Are you sure you heard him right ?!" I asked one of my men.

"Y-yes sir." He replied. Ugh stupid wimps. What has that Dragneel got up his leave...

"Oi ! You two ! Less chattering and more action. Where's Natsu ?!" Boomed Igneel from the other side of the room. Oh great.

"He's not coming." I gulp wincing at his reaction.

"WHAT ?!" He slammed his fists on the table making me jump in my chair slightly. I think my soul just jumped out my body.

"H-he u-u-h"

"Stop stuttering you blonde idiot !You're meant to be my smart son but you're more stupid than a whole herd of Natsu's !" He threw an apple, aiming for my head and missing it by a mere centimetre.

"I-I have a p-plan." I lie. Come on light bulb switch on. Switch on come on. I know you're in there somewhere. Brain ? Yo brain I need your help where you at ?!

Ping.

"I'm waiting."

"What if we lure Natsu here..."

"That's a really stupid- wait...you mean ?"

"Yes."

"But how ?"

"You'll see." I reply with a smirk on my face.

Just you wait Dragneel. The clock has not stopped ticking yet.

Hey everyone !! I had my first exam today. It was Art and I failed it. I have biology tomorrow and I'm sure I'll fail that too....although I did study which is really annoying !

Again, updates will be late as I've to study a lot. I managed to find time for this though !

I hope it was ok.

After my last exam I'll be updating all my books twice a week again ^.^
