Chapter 39 - Time is Ticking

~Lucy POV~

I was completely speechless after what Natsu told me. I didn't know what to say to him to comfort him. His own parent is after him.

"Natsu, I won't let anything happen to you I promise." I reply, snuggling closer into his chest, inhaling his scent.

"I hope so. I'm scared they'll hurt you Lucy. I'm dangerous to be around. You should leave." I immediately pull away from him. Does he really think that I would leave him to get murdered ?!

"No ! That's not an option Natsu ! We'll get through this together. I promise we will Natsu. Everything will be ok." I say reassuring him. He turns his head to the side to avoid eye contact with me.

"You don't understand how guilty I'd feel if something happened to you because of me." He finally turned his head towards me once again. I stared at him into his eyes full of worry. This isn't the strong Natsu I know. This is like the Natsu he was describing from the murder night, the afraid one who didn't know what to do, the one who felt useless despite doing his best to save everyone, the one who blames himself for everything.

"Natsu, listen to me. We will get through this. You're Natsu Dragneel ! You're strong and I love you. If something were to happen to you...I don't know what I'd do...when I thought I lost you, my world came crashing down. My life had no more sense, because I love you Natsu, I love you so much." I watch as a faint smile begins to play on his lips.

"Thank you, Lucy. I love you too." He placed his hand around my waist, gently pulling me back into his chest. "But now, please do shut up. I'm super tired and really want to sleep y'know." He winks at me as I gently smack him on the chest. Typical Natsu.

It's been a week since the incident and Natsu has definitely improved. Erza, luckily is staying out of town with Jellal for a bit longer, so hopefully Natsu will get better by then. I'm thinking about moving back in with Natsu once he's completely better. He can now walk around, which is kind of a bad thing as he keeps snooping where he isn't supposed to.

Last night, he said he wanted to help me do some cleaning around the house and I stupidly let him. He noticed some "dust" in vase on the chimney and was about to throw it out when I stopped him just in time.

It wasn't dust, it was Erza's cats freaking ashes. She'd kill me if she found out that they were gone.

Then, this morning Natsu wanted to make breakfast for us, except when I walked into the kitchen he managed to set fire to the food inside the pan, turning it to thick black ashes. Stupid Baka can't even fry an egg !

Natsu is now currently sitting playing video games on the Xbox in the living room. Anything to keep him still.

While he's distracted I decide to make dinner for us, since that idiot can't cook.

I began to set out the ingredients on the countertop to prepare a meal when I noticed Natsu's phone lying on it. Being the jealous girlfriend that I am, I quickly reached for it when a hand stopped me from doing so.

"Lucy, Lucy" Natsu tutted. "Haven't you heard of a word called 'privacy' ?" I pouted at him and folded my arms over my chest.

"Idiot." I muttered, chopping up some vegetables.

"Here, let me do that." Said Natsu grabbing the knife off me. Oh joy, I better keep a safety distance.

I watched as he cut the vegetables slowly and so far he seemed to be doing okay, so as he cut up the vegetables I began to cook he chicken.
