The Enemy [1]

31: A Dance

Tonight was mine and Steve's date. I was actually nervous for once. I haven't really been on a date in a long while. Nat and Emma decided to take over my outfit and everything else. I had enough of being dolled up so I pushed them out of the room. I shut the door and looked through my closet. I wanted to wear something that I was comfortable with and I liked. Well I'm not gonna wear sweatpants on a date. If I could, I would. Winter was laying on my bed chewing on a squeaky toy. He reminded me of Razor when he was a little puppy. I made me smile when I thought about Razor. I hummed to a song that was stuck in my head. After watching the Hunger Games with Clint I have the Hanging Tree song stuck in my head. Winter nudged my foot and pulled something out of my closet. I looked down to see him tugging out Alison's favorite dress that I had. I smiled widely before picking it up and patting Winter's head.
I decided to take a shower before getting dressed and ready. I pulled my hair into a bun and did my makeup. Which wasn't a lot since I don't like wearing makeup. I grabbed a small bag and patted Winter's soft head before tossing his chew toy onto the bed. He ran and jumped onto the bed and started to fight with the toy. I opened the door and walked out into the living room to see Nat and Emma watching TV.
"I'm ready" I said.
"Shhhh!" Emma hissed as I looked to see what they were watching. I raised my eyebrow and pointed to the TV.
"Really?" I asked.
"Shut up!" Nat said as I turned and walked over to Thea.
"Can you feed Winter for me?" I asked and she nodded in response. I walked over to the elevator and pushed the button. The doors opened and I stepped inside. When the doors opened again and I saw Steve waiting on the bottom floor.
"Hey Soldier!" I said walking up behind him. He was wearing a red button up shirt and jeans.
"Wow. You look amazing" he said smiling before he handed me a black rose.
"Thank you. You do too... I mean you look... Handsome" I said trying to make sense.
"Thank you" he said as a blush crept onto both of our faces, "let's get going. I have a fun night planned."
"Great" I said as he took his hand in mine. I saw Johnny sitting on the couch pretending to read the newspaper. Me and Steve walked outside and down the street. It felt comfortable holding his hand. I shivered slightly realizing I forgot my jacket as we walked toward Central Park.
"Here take mine" Steve said taking off his leather jacket and draping it over my shoulders.
"Thank you" I said as my cheeks turned red. We took a walk through Central Park before arriving at the restaurant. It was old and really pretty. Steve told me that he use to go here all the time when he was my age. I laughed slightly when he pulled my chair out for me when we got to our table. I sat down and thanked him. He sat down across from me. We talked for awhile about random things.
"Jade, if I tell you my story... Will you tell me the whole version of ours? No lies?" He asked. I took a deep breath before nodding in response. He began to explain everything to me. I was almost about to cry when he told me about Peggy. He had it harder than me.
"Cap?" I asked and he hummed in response, "you're so brave and quiet... I forget your suffering." He stared at me with understanding.
"I should say the same for you" he said.
"It's true. You were never afraid to run away from a fight" I said remembering how he told me about getting beat up all the time before the serum.
"You're the only person, after Peggy, to understand me" he said taking a drink of his water.
"You're different" I said with no emotion on my face.
"Your turn" he said.
"Okay. My birth year is wrong on my file. I'm not really 16. I'm technically 17 or 18. The date was never really confirmed since I never really existed. When I was 3 me and my mom escaped Hydra and ran away. When SHIELD found us, mom was scared so she tossed me out the window and told me to run. I thought she was dead but I guess not. I also thought my dad was dead since he never came back. I'd see him in my dreams here and there. But when I got to New York I met Adam at Central Park. He took me in once he found out I was alone and scared. He was like a brother or maybe a father but Matt was more of a father figure. Matthew trained me to be The Raven. The second Raven basically. My mother was the Raven first. I thought I was doing good. Matthew knew my past-"
"Where did Emma show up?" Steve asked.
"I'm getting there" I said before continuing with my life story, "like I said, Matthew knew who I was and almost my whole past. Matthew was one of Emma's stepbrothers so that's how I knew Emma. Every since I was 4, I think, she and Matthew trained me. She was already known as the Huntress. Matthew didn't tell me his code name. But Emma started to work for SHIELD and Matthew begged her not to tell SHIELD anything about me existing. If he wouldn't have been so stubborn and she would've told them then I could've been there at age 5. But when the battle of New York happened I actually took down a few of those aliens for you guys. It didn't take long but it was funny since I was only 5. But when I turned 8 Matthew left me and Emma. He just disappeared for some odd reason. Emma had decided to finish training me to fight and Adam had no idea where I would go during the day. But when he was asleep I would sneak out of the apartment before I had my own apartment of course. But when I lived with Adam it was really fun. He showed me movies that a normal kid would watch everyday. He knew nothing of my powers or who I was."
"What about Thea and Arianna?" Steve asked intrigued.
"When I was 10 I met Thea in the streets. Me and her became friends instantly. She actually was saved by SHIELD so it kind of made me think if I could trust SHIELD or not. I met Arianna was I was 10 as well. We did a few missions together but she was on the run from SHIELD after accidentally burning down some building. But when we went to Germany the one time to do some kind of mission we were attacked by the Winter Soldier. I wasn't aware of who he was or what he was doing there but he just tried to kill us. Me and Arianna ran after that and got away before heading back to New York. Of course Emma came with us because if she didn't I wouldn't be here. The Winter Soldier stabbed me in my side. Right where Adam stabbed me on prom night" I explained.
"You don't have to explain anymore if you don't want to" Steve said probably noticing my discomfort.
"Thank you. That actually felt good to get a few things off my chest" I said smiling.
"Well let's do something relaxing" he suggested.
"Like what?" I asked. Next thing I knew Steve had pulled me up from the chair and out onto the dance floor that had maybe two couples dancing. We began to dance together to the slow song that was playing.
"I don't dance" I said.
"Neither do I" he said spinning me with a smile before pulling me close to him. I smiled softly before hesitantly resting my head on his chest. I felt something inside me change. It was like the bad person that I once was had vanished and now I different person had taken over. Someone nice and ready for change. I thought about the black rose among the many yellow daffodils. I was different than most people. I was unique in Steve's pale cobalt blue eyes that made me melt every time he looked at me. The feelings inside me were insane. I was actually being showed love and compassion toward another person other than Alison who I once cared for and still do care about her. I smiled as I listened to Steve's gentle heartbeat. The feeling inside me was different and unique. I guess to get super cheesy with this whole romance is to say that: I stop breathing when Steve smiles. It's something that I'll know to look forward to is to see a smile spread across his Patriotic face.
Steve's heartbeat soothed me as we continued to dance. I felt like I could've fallen asleep right then and there. After we were done dancing, we decided to pay for our meal and then head back to the tower. I enjoyed the night me and Steve had. His jacket was still draped over my shoulders as we walked toward the tower. I felt Steve put his arm I around my shoulder and pull me close. I felt a small feeling inside when we touched at that moment. I wonder if he felt it too. I stopped walked and turned to face Steve. He didn't know why I stopped. I grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pulled him done to my level before kissing him softly on the lips. I let go out his collar and wrapped my arms around his neck. I smiled against his soft lips before I opened my eyes a little bit to see Steve's reaction. After we pulled away and smiled up at Steve.
"I needed to do that" I said, "you're a good kisser."
"Thanks?" He said kind of like a question but smiled anyway, "so are you." We then continued to walk back to the tower with smiles on our faces and our hands interlocked with each other.

I think I ship Captain Raven now. I didn't know who to ship but now I'm shipping them! CAPTAIN RAVEN ALL THE WAY! I hope you guys enjoyed this lovely chapter! What do you think will happen next?! And I'm also planning on doing one more character that could be created by one of you guys! So I only need one and it's gonna be really hard to choose.
