29: Awake

Jade's P.O.V
My eyes fluttered open and I looked around the room. There was a bright light above me and it hurt my eyes to look at it. I took my eyes off the light and scanned the room hoping to realize where I was. I was laying in a bed with things that were in my left arm that were connected to machines. I felt a pain in my side and I fixed the way I was sitting. "Good morning, Jade" JARIVS said, his voice echoing through my years. I tried to remember what happened. All I could remember from last night was Adam being alive and almost killing me.
"Shall I alert the Avengers that you are awake?" JARVIS asked. I didn't trust my voice at the moment so I nodded my head slowly hoping that there were some kind of camera that would allow JARVIS to see me or whatever. Soon JARVIS spoke up again, "who would you like to see first?" I began to think of different people who I'd want to see. My dad. Emma. Steve. Johnny. Uncle Thor. Arianna and Thea. Even my mom. I smiled and decided to do something that I knew no one would expect.
"Steve" I said in a cracky voice.
"He is headed here now" JARVIS said as I laid my head back onto the pillow and looked up at the ceiling. I wondered how Steve and Johnny reacted to me getting stabbed. I guess I'll never know. The door opened and Steve walked in. He seemed happy to see that I was awake. For all I could remember, me and Steve use to dislike each other. We fought constantly. However, I couldn't help but feel something for the Super Soldier with a shield. He made me feel all happy when I was around him. I hadn't really experienced the whole butterflies before but I guess this was what it felt like. I didn't know how to explain the feeling. I felt something for Johnny as well but it wasn't as strong as what I felt towards Steve.
"Hey" I said coughing a little bit. Steve sat down in a chair beside my bed and smiled at me. That smile. I'm only 16 and I'm saying that a man much older than me is adorable. I wonder how that'll work out. I was still friends with Peter though. Peter was just my friend and nothing more.
"Glad to see you're awake" Steve said as I studied his face seeing that his eyes were red and puffy from crying. This peaked my interest. Did he cry because I almost died? Or what else happened while I was asleep.
"How long was I out?" I asked as Steve poured me a glass of water and handed me the cup. Our hands slightly brushed together sending a spark of electricity through my body. I ignored the feeling and took a sip of my water.
"3 days" he said as he looked at me with a upset expression.
"Wow" I said as I felt Steve's hand rest on top of mine. I looked down at his hand. It was much bigger than mine. I then looked up at Steve with a sad smile. I guess him and Johnny shared the same feelings for me. But I didn't understand. Johnny could have any other girl in the world yet he chooses to fight over one girl. I listened to the slight patter of the rain on the window.
"You'll be moved back to your bedroom later today since you woke up" Steve stated as he stood up and looked out the window. I noticed a dozen of yellow daffodils sitting in the windowsill.
"Who got me those flowers?" I asked rubbing my thumb on the cold glass of water that was in my hand.
"Oh... I did. I didn't know what your favorite flower was so I decided to get you what I thought was more nice" he said with a small smile. I smiled as well at the thought of Steve thinking about what flower to get me. It's the thought that counts. I saw one single black rose in the middle of the group of yellow daffodils.
"The black rose?" I asked.
"I put it there. It's unique... Like you" Steve said. Wow. Did he really care this much? He put so much thought into just getting me flowers. What's next a thoughtful walk through Central Park? I began to think about so many things. Steve thought I was unique in my own way. That's very thoughtful of him. I wonder if Johnny could try and top that. Who knows, Johnny might go all out!
"That's very sweet of you, Steve" I said as he looked over at me with a small smile that spread across those soft lips of his. He made me feel all warm and happy inside. For once I felt this way. I once thought that Johnny made me feel this way. I never expected the Captain to make me feel different. I remember when I use to hate him.
"You're welcome. I just thought that you'd like it" he said.
"Like it? I love it. It was very nice of you" I said as he stood a seat beside me again. I remember barely coming out of my room when I first arrived at the tower. I hated Steve's guts at the time. But slowly I guess I warmed up to him.
Flashback
We landed at Avengers Tower and I was rudely awoken by Steve. I groaned and turned away from him hoping he'd just leave me on the jet. Nope. I was thrown over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. I was really tired. We entered the building and I hit my head on the top of the door.
"Ouch!" I said as Steve let out a chuckle, "sometimes you're nice. Sometimes you're a real pain."
"That's called lying" Steve said.
"That's called you don't have a heart" I said as we entered the elevator, "put me down. I know how to walk." He didn't even move or say anything. Once the doors opened and we entered into a nice little area. There was a hallway where four rooms were. There was a small living room and a tiny kitchen. I guess the bigger kitchen is upstairs. We walked down the hallway and Steve opened a door before dropping me onto the carpeted floor. I groaned in pain as I slowly got up. Steve took a key from his pocket and went to take off the handcuffs. I looked up at him with confusion.
"The walls in the tower keep you from using your powers. Except for in the training room" He said taking them off.
"Thanks for the information, Rogers. Now do me a favor" I said smiling.
"What is that favor?" He asked and my smile dropped.
"Leave me alone" I said clearly angry with him. At first he didn't move. I opened the door and pushed him out of the bedroom.
"Dinner is in an hour" he said.
"Doesn't mean I'll be there" I said closing the door and locking it. I saw what looked to be an expensive vase so I pushed it off the dresser, breaking it.
Flashback Over
"When you are feeling better I talked to Fury about you joining the Avengers. I could train you" Steve's voice broke through my thoughts and pulled me back into the real world. I looked up at him and smiled kindly.
"Thank you, Steve. That's very nice of you" I said as we both heard loud footsteps coming down the hallway. Of course I knew who it was. Johnny entered the room holding a little stuffed bear that was holding a heart that had the words Get Well Soon stitched into it.
"Hey" Johnny said sitting the bear down in my lap with a smile.
"Hi" I said forcing a smile onto my face.
"Glad to see my girl is awake" Johnny said taking Cap's seat without asking. Still the same Johnny Storm. I wanted to say something but I decided not to and just smile. In this situation it's better to keep your mouth shut if you're laying in a hospital bed.
"Also you don't have to go to school anymore" Steve mumbled making me smile.
"Really?!" I asked with excitement.
"Yeah. I talked to Fury about it and he said that he would like to have your identity remain secret" Steve said as Johnny glared at him for interrupting the moment that Johnny was having, "I'll give you two some alone time." Steve walked out of the room and closed the door behind himself.
"Old man" Johnny muttered before turning his attention toward me.
"Stop picking on him" I said.
"When were you on his side?" He asked.
"When did you get an attitude?" I asked.
"I've always had one" he stated as I rubbed the bear's ear.
"Really? I didn't notice" I said sarcastically.
"Playing hard to get?" He asked changing the subject.
"Maybe" I said staring into his pale cobalt blue eyes that shimmered in the light. He's such a Hot Head! He stood up and walked over to me before placing a kiss on my cheek softly. I set a little chill through my body making me smile a little.
"You got this bear from a gift shop" I whispered into his ear making him smirk.
"What makes you think that?" He asked as I pulled off the price tag and held it to him.
"Bought from the CVS" I said putting the price tag in his hand with a smile.
"I love you" he said.
"CAPTAIN RAVEN!!!" I heard Emma yell over the speakers making me laugh. I guess Emma switched sides.
