It was a pretty cold day outside. My herd was huddled together as we tried to stay warm. It was times like this that I missed my Silverblaze so dearly. I sighed as I layed with one of the babies. Her name was Lizzie. She was a little appaloosa who was abandoned by her herd. I honestly missed having a baby to take care of. I stayed with her most of the time so that she stayed warm and had someone to trust. As the lead mare of Wolf's herd I felt that it was my responsibility. I did want my old herd back. Right now though I had to keep my herd away from Sunpearl's herd. They are all screw ups over there. It was still early morning though and I needed to lead them to food. I went up to Wolf.
"Wolf we have to go to the fields now." I looked at him. And he nodded. I rounded everyone up and left to the bigger pastures. After I made sure everyone was settled and eating I caught out of the corner of my eye the familiar big bay andalusian known as Thunder. He constantly asked to take over my herd. I always refused because even though the herd was technically Wolf's, it was mine as well. I walked over to the bay and sighed.
"Thunder. Leave me alone. It's my herd."
He seemed taken aback by my abrupt greeting.
"Oh c'mon Sunny."
I glared at him. Only close horses could call me that.
"Don't call me that. My name is Sundancer." I basically growled at him.
"Whatever Sundancer. I still want your herd. There is many pretty mares. Like you." He grinned devilishly and I kicked him with my back hoof as I trotted away. I continued checking through the mares. Wolf of course was grazing and acting like he did everything even though it was really me who made sure everything was in order. I trotted up to Lizzie.
"How are you doing Liz." I nudged her gently.
"I'm okay... thanks. Do you know your coat shimmers in the sunlight?"She looked at me with happy eyes as I arched my head to look at my palomino coat.
I laughed.
"Well yes it does. You are right." I nickered gently as grazed quietly next to her.
