The week went by quickly. It was the same old thing everyday trying constantly avoid Sunpearl, eating the little grass that was left, and taking care of my filly. We were outside together and Lizzie wanted to run through the snow so I took her outside and it was the happiest I had felt in a while. We were running around when I saw one of the yearlings in my heard, Hawkeye, meet that pinto I saw earlier by the river. They looked a little to snug for my comfort.
"Mommy I'm going to go inside and hang out with Lemon for a little bit." Lizzie started to trot back to the cave to play with her friend. In the mean time, I went over to where Hawkeye and the grey paint were.
"Hawkeye what are you doing?" I questioned the horse. The paints ears went back in fear as I approached them.
"Sunny, this is Winter. I love her." Hawkeye tried to sound confident.
"Oh really now." I sneered at him and he became nervous.
I approached Winter who was becoming increasingly afraid.
"And why are you near my herd?"
I was an intimidating horse and she stayed silent.
"Are you going to answer or sit there like a baby!?"
I yelled at Winter and Hawkeye
Stepped in front of her.
"Look Sunny leave her alone. Sunpearl thought it was fine!" He dared yelled at me. I have to be honest, I was proud of his confidence in protecting someone he loves. I still didn't approve of this still but I backed off. I had to go talk to Sunpearl.
"Whatever Hawkeye. Go away and start your own life. You are old enough to leave. If you leave though you have to find a different place for the rest of winter. Otherwise I don't want you talking to them. AM I CLEAR?!" Hawkeye nodded and smiled. As long as he knew what he was doing, he would be a good stallion. With that, him and Winter walked away to live a life together.
"Bye Sunny." He called back.
"Bye Hawk, be good!" I called back. I was honestlyvery proud of him. He can start his own herd.
I turned around back into the cave.
"Sunpearl where the hell are you?" I yelled for the mare. We needed a serious discussion. I found her next to Silverblaze.
"We need to talk." I wasn't going to sugar coat it as Pearl came behind me and we went outside so we wouldn't draw attention to ourselves. I was furious that she knew about Hawk'sand Winter's little fling. Well now we lost a member of each of our herds. Hawkeye I wasn't worried about though. He was a strong horse who could care for himself.
"What do you want to talk about Sundancer." Sunpearl acted so sweet but I wasn't letting my guard down.
"Dont act like you didn't know about Winter and Hawkeye. I just found out and I'm furious that he got to your herd!" I yelled at her.
"I didn't see it as a problem Sunny. They loved each other and that was that. I can't change the way they feel." Sunpearl responded back to me.
"Well guess what. They are gone. I told hawk he could leave if he wanted and that is exactly what he did. So now you lost a herd member." I saw Sunpearl's face fall. I guess they were friends.
"She never said goodbye...." Sunpearl whispered.
"Well they seem very happy together and Hawk is a good horse. I raised him." I softened my hard heart for a moment. Silverblaze used to love me. Hawk was going to be so much of a better stallion than Silverblaze. I was lost in thought when Sunpearl brought up that stupid black horse again.
"Sunny, he's behind you on the cliff. There is a bay as well." She whispered and I turned to look. Sure enough alongside the big black horse was the big bay known as Thunder.
