Ryan’s POV

When Alison and I had finally cooled off, we decided to go watch Doctor Who. After a few hours, I had fallen asleep. When I woke back up, I found the rest of the couch empty and Alison nowhere to be found.

I stood up and walked out of the living room, checking the kitchen first thinking maybe she had just gotten hungry and gone to get something to eat. She wasn’t there so I continued my search as I walked back the hall.

Eventually I heard sound coming from the music room. I walked to the door which was slightly open and just listened to what she was playing.  It didn’t sound familiar and I had no idea who it was, but she seemed to know it pretty well. I didn’t want to interrupt her so I just stood outside of the door and listened closely.

“Well you only need the light when its burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go
Staring at the bottom of your glass
Hoping one day you'll make a dream last
But dreams come slow and they go so fast
You see her when you close your eyes
Maybe one day you'll understand why
Everything you touch surely dies
But you only need the light when its burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
Staring at the ceiling in the dark
Same old empty feeling in your heart
Cos love comes slow and it goes so fast
Well you see her when you fall asleep

But never to touch and never to keep
Cos you loved her too much and you dived too deep
Well you only need the light when its burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go
And you let her go
Well you let her go
Cos you only need the light when its burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
Cos you only need the light when its burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow

Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go.”

When she finished the song, I opened the door all the way and walked in, clapping as I got closer to her. She turned around and looked at me, obviously shocked that I had just heard her, for the second time. She stood up, setting her guitar down as she did, and cleared her throat.

“How long have you been listening?” She asked.

“Just for that song. What was it anyways?” I asked.

“Passenger, it’s called Let Her Go.” She answered.

“It’s really good, and you’re really good.” I said.
