AN: Sorry if it's a bit short, but I really wanted to get the point across, and I kind of needed a filler chapter in a way. But big events happen in this small chapter, good and bad. Next chapter will be up in the morning/afternoon :)
Ryan's POV
As I pulled up outside of my apartment later that night, I let out a sigh as I ran a hand through my hair. Today had started off with good and bad news. The day continued on, in an average way. But then it all went down hill.
As Alison and I pulled up outside of her parent's house, I glanced over at her as if to ask whether she would tell her parents today or not. She shock her head lightly, signalling that she did not want to tell them yet before getting out of the car and heading for the front door.
As I followed her inside, I noticed that she had started to shake. I figured it was just nerves and ignored it. We walked in and found her parents, Ben, Tricia, and Timmy all sitting in the living room, talking and laughing.
"Hey guys." Ben said as he noticed us.
Alison and I both gave a little wave before sitting down on the empty couch. Bailey ran up to us and jumped up on my lap before jumping over to Ali's. I laughed at the dog's actions thinking about how it had only been a day or so and she was acting as if it had been years since she had seen us.
"What is that?" Alison asked suddenly.
I followed her glance to find it on Tricia's left hand. Her ring finger to be exact.
"See what you miss when you aren't home for a day?" Ben asked.
"Did you..." Alison trailed off.
"Yes." Ben replied with a smile as he took hold of Tricia's hand before leaning over and kissing her quickly.
"Congratulations." I said with a smile.
"Thanks Ryan." Tricia said smiling back.
After a while of sitting and talking about the engagement and other things, Alison stood and excused herself before rushing off to the bathroom. When she wasn't back ten minutes later, I excused myself and went to check on her.
"Alison?" I questioned as I stood outside the bathroom door.
Seconds later the bathroom door swung open and I was faced with a frightened Alison. She had tears running down her face and she was shaking.
I pulled her into a tight embrace, trying to calm her down, only to fail. There was nothing I could do at this point.
"Ryan, something is wrong." she said softly through her tears.
"What do you mean?" I asked worried.
"The baby, Ryan, there is something wrong with the baby." she whispered before burying her face in my chest.
"Come on." I said as I lead her towards the front door. "Ben, can I talk to you out here for a second?" I asked as I passed the living room.
Seconds later, Ben was standing infront of us with a worried look on his face.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"Something is wrong with the baby, so I'm going to take Alison to the hospital. We will keep you updated." I said rushed as I help Alison close.
"I'm coming with you." He said quickly as he grabbed his jacket and got Tricia.
We all headed to the hospital, taking two cars so it was easier to get home later. When we got to the hospital, they rushed Alison straight into the Emergency Room. She was having major pains and they thought there might be more wrong.
After endless hours of sitting in a waiting room, the doctor finally came out.
"Ryan?" He asked.
"Yes?" I questioned.
"Alison is asking for you. You can go in now." He said, "One at a time though."
"Okay, thank you." I answered as I stood up, sending a nod towards Ben.
As I walked into the room, I quickly rushed to Alison's side, taking her hands in mine and leaning down to place a kiss on her forehead.
"It's gone Ryan." Alison said in a whisper.
"We can always try again." I said softly.
Alison shoke her head as tears began to form once again. I was confused on why she was acting as if she couldn't try again.
"They said if I were to be pregnant again, the same thing would happen. The baby can't grow." She said sadly.
"We will get through this Alison. Together. You and me against the world." I said.
"I love you Ryan." She said as she looked at me lovingly.
"I love you too Alison." I replied as I leaned down and placed a soft kiss on her lips.
*Present*
The hospital wouldn't let all of us stay the night, so Ben decided he would stay. When I finally got home, I went straight to bed only to sit in bed wide awake the entire night.
I couldnt sleep knowing that everything that had happened today was reality. I just wanted to know that Ali was safe and that she would be okay, but at the moment, I didn't know that. I didn't know whether or not she would be able to cope with everything that was going on and that worried me.
Ben told me how Alison coped with things in the past, and what if that is how she decides to cope this time as well? What if she turned to drugs again?
I needed someone to help me with this. Someone who knows Alison's story and is more than willing to help me. Someone who isn't Ben, but someone who ares for Alison as much as Ben and I do.
And I knew just the person.
