Ahh . . . Mari felt more comfortable than she had in a long time. She didn't know why, but she felt warm, comfortable, safe. She didn't want to wake up. But . . . She had to. She didn't know where she was. She wasn't . . . dead, was she? No, she remembered the feeling of falling asleep, or something similar, and then . . . She was wrapped in something warm, and felt herself being carried. Now, she smelled something delicious, and felt something soft around her. Her eyes slowly opened, her vision a little blurry, and she groggily sat up in the . . . bed? Yeah, she was lying in a really comfortable bed in a room she didn't recognize, Neelix lying beside her. And that smell . . . It had to be coming from the slice of pie that sat only a few feet away from her. She grabbed Neelix before standing up in front of the bed, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. She must have been asleep for a few hours. Mari knelt in front of the pie with curiosity, licking her lips as she looked at it for a few minutes. It was tempting . . . And it had to have been left there for her, right? So she was supposed to eat it, right? Yeah . . . She took a tentative bite . . . And her face lit up. Butterscotch and Cinnamon? Her two favorite flavors? Oh boy! She did her best to savor it, enjoying each bite. In an uncharacteristic show of messiness, she licked the plate clean, a bright grin she didn't get to show often on her face. Whoever had saved her from Flowey must be a wonderful person! She had given her a warm bed and a slice of her favorite pie! Or, of course, they could just be gaining her trust before betraying her like everyone else . . .
The woman sat comfortably in her chair as time slipped by. She couldn't even remember the last time she felt so content in her home. The last time she felt like this was a very long time ago back in a more familiar household, however with less color. Things had gone wrong back then and she left. She believed it was for the best, but staying here, alone, and watching the human children disappear past that door was something that caught up to her, and eventually weakened her. However, she would make things right this time! Whether it be the tiniest action, the child will stay here with her. She won't be forced to feel saddened anymore, and she hoped things wouldn't be the same this time around.
Mari stood up, plate in one hand and Neelix in the other arm, and left the room. She looked around, hoping to find the person who had saved her. She went left down the hallway to find another room. Maybe they'd be in there? She hoped going in wouldn't result in her getting punished. Her father had always told her to never go inside his office, and she had gotten a painful reminder the one time she forgot. She never forgot again. But . . . this person was different, right? They wouldn't hurt her after saving her . . . Would they? With a shaky hand, she opened the door to find . . . No one. But she walked in anyways, curious. A book on a desk caught her attention, finding a passage circled in red pen. She read the joke, and a giggle escaped her. She loved jokes! This person must like them too! She'd have to try this joke she found sometime. Of course, she'd give credit to her savior. One she found out their name, anyway. She left the room and closed the door, walking back the way she had come and walking past the room she had woken up in. She stared down the stairway with a little curiosity, but passed it anyhow. In the next room, she found a table, a bookcase, a fireplace, and . . . A Monster! Mari stood rooted to the spot as she stared at the . . . Goat woman? But her shock wore off eventually, and she approached the woman slowly, still a little wary. "U-Um . . . Thank you for s-saving me . . . And, um, f-for the pie . . ." she said softly, offering the licked-clean plate to her, unsure what to do with it. Neelix was clutched close as usual.
It had been awhile as Toriel read through a book called 'Snail Facts'. She wasn't sure whether to stop or keep reading as she heard the faint sounds of footsteps down the hall. She glanced up from her book as someone opened the door and she was welcomed to the sight of a slightly frightened looking girl. The same one she had rescued before. She smiled sweetly at the young girl, watching her walk over and offer her the now completely empty plate. She giggled softly at the 'thank you' she received and stood up, resting a gentle hand on her head and petting it softly. "You are quite welcome. And I'm glad you liked it. I am Toriel, the Gate Keeper of the Ruins. Where you had fallen was a place I check regularly for fallen humans. You are the first human to fall down here in a very long time..." She said, removing her hand before walking back towards the kitchen. She called out to the girl before she did anything. "Would you appreciate another slice?" She asked, walking over to the large pie she had made and rested the plate next to it. If she wanted some, she could have some more. She honestly didn't mind.
