A/N: Hello my dear readers! I'm very sorry for the very long absence, but if you've seen my message on my profile then you know why I've been gone so long. I hope I won't have to stay away so long again.
This chapter is dedicated to Tenebrous2099, who has stuck with this story since it's very beginning, and is always giving me unbiased feedback. Thank you, my friend!
The songs for this chapter are Dogsong for the annoying fluffball, Memory for the music box ( linked video ), and then just, uh, listen to some rain. No, seriously, there is no OST for when it's raining, so just listen to some rain pattering on windows or something. Just, uh, don't fall asleep, 'kay? 'Cause listening to the rain makes me sleepy . . .
Okay, I'm just gonna give you guys the chapter now. Enjoy!

Toriel watched Sans leave, shaking her head with a soft smile and watched as Mari finally got back to her after sparing Shyren. She took her hand back into her paw again before continuing forth. That was indeed fun while it lasted, but Mari looked ready to continue. The room the the left had a piano, arrows on the wall, and a plaque to the right. Ahead was simply a wall. Toriel looked to Mari and wondered what they were going to do with an empty room with a worn down piano.
Mari looked at the plaque next to the room before they entered, reading the words there, "The northern room hides a great treasure." It seemed to be referencing the room they had just entered with the piano, if Mari's internal compass was to be trusted. The plaque on the wall in said room read, "A haunting song echoes down the corridor . . . Won't you play along? Only the first 8 are fine." But it was confusing. Mari couldn't hear a song, in the room or in the pathway she had encountered Shyren in. Strange. And looking to the piano only made her more curious. Walking back out with Toriel, she decided to venture on to the east.
Toriel had watched as Mari read the words of the plaque that resided outside of the room she wanted to enter. Walking into it, she saw the other plaque within the room and allowed Mari to read that one as well. Toriel, herself, was a bit confused about the whereabouts of the music, for she didn't hear any, but she was sure that they would figure out how to deal with that later. She followed her back out of the room and into the hall once again.
Along the hallway, there were more plaques. The first read, "This power has no counter. Indeed, a human cannot take a monster's SOUL. When a monster dies, its SOUL disappears. And an incredible power would be needed to take the SOUL of a living monster." The following one had, "There is only one exception. The SOUL of a special species of monster called a 'Boss Monster.' A Boss Monster's SOUL is strong enough to persist after death . . . If only for a few moments. A human could absorb this SOUL. But this has never happened. And now it never will." written on it. Mari let go of Toriel's hand when she felt a flash of desire course through her. It wasn't her own, she had to remind herself of that. She could feel Chara pushing to get out somehow, but she wouldn't let them. She did her best to push them back down, but she wasn't sure how much longer they would stay trapped. She knew it wasn't just her own willpower keeping Chara under control. There was something else. She didn't know if Chara was biding their time or willingly staying away from her thoughts for some other reason, but it wasn't good.
Once recovered, Mari gave Toriel an apologetic smile for what must have looked like an abrupt jerk of her hand. She hoped it didn't look like she was flinching away from her Goat Mom or anything. "Sorry, I just felt a-a shiver." she said, taking Toriel's paw back into her own hand. It was the truth, in a way. After that surge of desire, she had felt shivers of repulsion. Disgust at the notion of taking a Monster's SOUL--their very being--for any of the reasons Chara must want it. Disgust at Chara for even thinking about it. And disgust at herself for letting Chara make her feel that desire.
