Mari soon came across two plaques, as well as a Save Point. She immediately walked towards the glowing yellow point. The serene sound of a distant music box . . . It filled her with DETERMINATION. She walked over to the first plaque on the wall and read the cyan-colored words, "The humans, afraid of our power, declared war on us. They attacked suddenly, and without mercy." Mari once again felt sorrow for the Mosnters and pity for the Humans. She pitied them for their fear. Monsters may sometimes resemble animals, but Humans were the ones who lashed out violently when frightened. She shook her head and walked over to the other plaque. It read, "In the end, it could hardly be called a war. United, the humans were too powerful, and us monsters, too weak. Not a single SOUL was taken, and countless monsters were turned to dust . . ." Mari shivered at the word 'dust', feeling Chara squirm inside her SOUL with longing. She pushed them down as far as possible again before turning away from the plaque. Looking forward to the path ahead, she was intimidated by the dark, and worried what might be lurking there. It also made her worry for Toriel, behind her. Who knew where she had gone? If she was in danger? If she needed help? All these worrying questions twirling around in her mind, she made her choice. It was decided. As she went to access her cell, she found something weird. She could access something called 'STAT'. She decided to check it out

Happy with her stats--as they seemed to be working for her so far--though she was still curious about the acronyms, she decided to leave them be for now and get on to what she had originally planned to do. She pulled out her cell and was glad to see the person's number there. She dialed and waited for an answer before tentatively saying their name into the microphone, "Sans?"

Said skeleton was resting up at one of his sentry posts, dozing off due to having little things to do. He was a bit anxious about Mari heading further into Waterfall, but he was sure she would do just fine. He was ready to fall asleep completely until he felt the vibrations of something in his pocket. Lazily, he lowered his hand to his pocket and leaned back into his chair, kicking up his feet onto the stand he sat behind. He pulled his phone out, his other arm cushioning his head as he brought the phone to his face. Hearing the voice from the other side, Sans felt a slight sense of relief in hearing who it was. " * yeah, kid?" He asked, wondering what they needed.

Mari was glad Sans had answered, unsurprised by the casual hello, but was nervous that he would be irritated with her for calling for what might be baseless worries. Taking a breath to calm herself, she started on the reason for her call. "U-Um, Toriel and I split u-up . . . There was a ledge th-that was too high, but M-Monster Kid helped me up, s-so Toriel turned back with th-the kid, and I'm going o-on, but now I'm worried . . ." She said, taking a breath to calm herself before speaking again, "S-So, um, I was hoping m-maybe you could . . . check on h-her? I know that she's st-strong, but . . . I'm still worried . . . B-But, you don't have to . . . I-I was just worried . . . You're p-probably busy . . . I'm sorry for b-bothering you . . ." Her voice got softer and less and less confident as she went on, until it was barely audible and a bit shaky. Her father had hated when she bothered him while he was at work--it had often ended with a beating--so she was quite apprehensive about asking Sans--or anyone--for something. She had come to believe that he was a good Monster, though, and so she hoped that he would be different from her own father. And that he would at least consider her request.
