A/N: Heya guys. Here's the newest part of Betrayed Innocence! It's, uh, not the happiest of chapters. But there's some hope. I, uh, may not be able to upload for a while. My co-author has disappeared . . . I'm waiting for some sort of response from her. So, I'm sorry for the hiatus-to-come.

The songs for this chapter are But the Earth Refused to Die ( Fits the mood ) for the first part, then just Another Medium for the last part, the less despressing part.

Hope you enjoy!

Mari's eyes opened slowly, blinking at the blurry gray in front of her. She shut her eyes again. The color was giving her a headache. She slowly stood from where she had been laying down, carefully opening her eyes again. She wound up squinting to relieve some of the pain. Where was she . . . ? Last she remembered, she had just bought a hot dog from Sans, and they were all laughing about a joke he'd made . . . What happened after that . . . ? She didn't know . . . But suddenly she was hearing something—the sounds of . . . fighting? But who would be fighting? She looked around, trying not to get too dizzy, attempting to locate the source of the noises. Eventually her eyes landed on something, something that . . . couldn't be possible . . .

But there she was, watching herself wear a grin and red eyes, and wield a knife. How could this be possible!? Chara had never taken over this fully . . . Usually they only said something through her or messed with her by thinking certain things at her. But now . . . ? Now they had taken over her body, and locked her away inside her own mind . . . And they were battling a Monster Mari had never seen before. They were a large boulder-like Monster, with a gleeful glint in their eyes and a proudness in their stance. But their face seemed to be drooping as Chara continued to strike them. It was so surreal, to watch her body, controlled by another, attack a Monster. It only helped a little bit that the Monster was fighting back. Chara didn't seem to have much difficulty evading the attacks, though. Until the Monster's HP was dangerously low . . . And suddenly physics flew out the window.

Chara cursed under their breath as the Monster in front of them, who used to be boring and super easy, began to switch up the rules on them. Suddenly the gravity in the SOUL box would shift, making Chara's perspective all wacky, and forcing them to run into things. They hadn't expected this. It was too much like . . . his attacks. But boy was it interesting! Chara's grin widened as they kept avoiding damage and then dishing it out themselves. Getting such a workout after being locked away somewhere for so long . . . It was invigorating!

Too bad it couldn't last forever . . .

Soon enough, Chara's attacks had completely depleted the Monster's HP, They were a goner. They smirked as the Monster began to crumble, seeming disappointed in themselves. "Looks like . . ." the Monster said, their speech broken up by more crumbling, "we got caught . . . between a rock . . . and a hard place . . . " Their voice broke at the end, the manly façade broken along with their white SOUL, dust the only remnant of their presence. Chara's smirk fell. No no no no they didn't want to go back they wanted to stay don't—

Mari gasped as she came back to herself, patting her body down to make sure she really was back inside her own skin. She breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, until her eyes drifted downwards to fall on the pile of dust on the ground in front of her. Her smile fell, and her eyes began to fill with tears. What had she done . . . !?

Sans and Toriel had mostly ended up talking about Papyrus and how of an adorable brother he was. Toriel had subconsciously been petting Neelix in her arms and Sans could't help but notice and point it out. " * heh, you've taken a liking to that thing." He said, pointing a bony finger at it and Toriel looked down, absent-mindedly petting it as if to ground herself. "Well, it's as she said: very soft! Would you like to feel him Sans?" She asked, and he shook his head, waving a gentle hand in denial. " * nah, i'm good. i don't usually mess around with those things." He said, chuckling and Toriel couldn't help but smirk, raising a furry eyebrow as she kept holding onto the stuffed cat. "Oh~? Too old for stuffed animals, are you?" She inquired and he couldn't help but narrow his eye sockets at her playfully. " * heh, says the one older than me." He said, and in good humor, they both laughed. The laughing calmed down to gentle chuckles until it fell into silence.
