(XXIII) Ripple Effect

Sam's POV

I quickly snapped out of it. I went towards the teacher. "Let me go with"

She shook her head "let's get back to practicing"

I shook my head and said "No I'm leaving"

I ran out of the school. The hospital was not that far probably only 10 or 12 blocks.

I bent down tied my shoes. I steadied my breath. Inhaled deeply and took off.

I was running and I couldn't hear my wheezing. I couldn't feel the ache in my chest every time I took another step. The only thing I could feel was that I needed to get to the hospital.

She fell far back and hit the ground so it didn't seem good.

I could see the hospital it was only like a block down.

I stopped in front of it. I looked at my phone it took 20 minutes to get here.

I immediately felt the effects of the long run and began wheezing and feeling the stitches every time I took a breath.

But I was so close. I jogged in and said to the desk lady. "Kailyn Dorey?!"

She looked on her computer.

"Second floor room 224."

I nodded and headed up the stairs because ain't nobody got time to wait for the elevators.

I got to her room and knocked. The doctor came out and asked "Family?" I had to answer "Yes I'm her sister"

He believed me and said "come on in"

I nodded and followed him through the door.

He cleared his throat and explained " See she passed out first. We believe it was from not eating so her blood pressure was low."

I swore at myself. I told her to eat food. He continued.

"When she fell of the back of the risers she hit her head leaving her with a concussion as you can assume. And she is in a coma. She will either wake up in a couple days or a couple of years."

Tears started to well up in my eyes. I looked to the down to the side of me where my unconscious roommate lay.

It was weird knowing she wasn't going to wake up, and that she could actually miss a whole day or days.

The doctor nodded and left. I went and pulled a chair next to her bedside. I cried for maybe hour. I heard the door open to see our best friend Alyssa.

Once she sees Kailyn laying there she puts her hand over her mouth.

She comes and sits next to me. We talk for awhile before I say "Someone should call Kellin."

I stepped out and dialed his number.
"What's up Sam?"
"Kellin I have something to tell you..."

"Can it wait I am practicing and ..."

"Kellin you really need to hear this"
"I'm really busy right now talk to you later"

He hung up just like that. I scoffed and went back to the room. Alyssa raised her eyebrow. "He couldn't talk he was busy" I said while putting my fingers up quoting the word busy.

Alyssa rolled her eyes "Well let me call him." I sighed "He will probably do the same to you."

She thought about it and said
"Probably.... You should go tell him in person."

"But I don't want to leave Kailyn." She gave me a look of really now. I backed out the door slowly and said " okay okay I'll be right back... Can I use your car I kind of ran here?'
