Naturally, the rest of the day fast forwarded then played once French came. My wounds didn't reopen, though I got plenty of questions. I just used Jace's lie about my "bike accident." I start to feel a little dizzy and warm during lunch and English. But it fades. Now, I am starting to get warmer and dizzy. I sit down, to avoid trouble, and passing out. The rest of the class files in and I put my head down, getting slightly more dizzy than before.
"Ari? You ok?" A familiar voice asks. I nod my head from inside my arms. "Then why is your head down?" It asks again. I make my shoulders shrug up then slump them down. "Come on. Look up." They keep saying. I huff and then poke my eye out, the one that doesn't come with the scratch. "There you are! I was thinking you were sleeping, or I did something to you." Jared exclaims.
"No, you didn't do anything." He still has his supplies in his hand.
I stand up and keeping my hand over my right cheek, walk over, and sat on the desk behind his. By now, my dizziness isn't fading. It's growing. I sway where I am sitting. "You ok?" He asks, his hazel green eyes full of the same concern Jace gives me. I nod simply. I take my hand off my cheek. His eyes become saucers. "What did you do this time?" He demands and moves closer. I move my head back. He backs up a couple steps and his eyes trail across the rest of me. He sees my right arm.
"Seriously, are you ok? What have you been doing?" He demands, concern mixed with disbelief.
"I was biking and I slipped on gravel." I respond. It works on everyone else, why shouldn't it work one more time?
"No you didn't. You would have multiple scratches, not one long one." He counters. I forgot he's smarter.
"You wouldn't believe if I told you." I mutter.
"Are you sure? I'm pretty sure I'd understand." He says, crossing his arms.
"No, you wouldn't. I didn't do this to myself on purpose if that's what you think." I counter, keeping my eyes down, staring at the gauze.
"I know you didn't. I just want to know what?" He asks, uncrossing his arms.
"I-I can't tell you. Nobody else did it, I just can't tell you." I cannot tell mundanes about the Shadow World. It's against the Law.
"Please tell me. I won't tell anyone else." I take a breath. I'm going to do it. I'm going to break the Law and tell him.
"You're going to think I'm insane, but I'm going to tell you the truth. I'm going to tell you why I have been changing clothes, attitude, why I come to school with occasional bruises and scrapes, why I have the black Marks on my skin." I gesture to my face, arms and clothes. He makes a get on with it gesture. I stand up and walk from the desk. "I am a-" An inferno bubbles inside me and dizziness engulfs me. Pain shoots from everywhere and my knees buckle.
My legs slide out from under me and the floor rushes up to meet me. Before I touch the rough carpet with my face, arms slide under my body. Someone, or something, lowers me to the ground. "Ari." A voice gargles. It sounds like it's coming through water, and far away. I force my eyes open and see medium brown eyes. I open my mouth to try and say something, but unconsciousness pulls me under.
*Jace POV*
Jace walks from the school with a small, satisfied smile on his face. Finally, I got to kiss her! He thinks. He recognizes a couple faces of the girls that likes him. He flashes one a smile, but one without promise. He walks back to the Institute, and begins training. He keeps an extra "eye" out for anything he might feel unusual. He know's he might be able to pick something up from Ari.
He felt she was having something wrong with sleep, that was before he heard the screaming. He can feel if something's wrong, to his best guess. So far, he can "feel" nothing wrong. He misses the bulls eye by an inch. "Jace." Hodge snaps. He turns his head to face him "What's going on? You hardly ever miss." He states. He shakes his head. He'll know if something happens to Ari.
"Sorry, Hodge." He throws another knife. It lands where it should, in the bulls eye.
Then he felt it. The heat and dizziness. Then his eyes black out, for just a minute. It was in the middle of lunch, after Latin. He shakes his head to clear the thought, but it lingered in the back of his mind. "Are you ok?" Isabelle asks, seeing that he shook his head. He thinks for a second about what could have caused that. His eyes widen momentarily.
"What is it?" The sibling chorus together, knowing when he look surprised, its bad.
"I-I, felt it." They look at him with quizzical expressions, heads tilting to the side. He shoves his chair back and it goes flying back a few feet. He grabs his jacket and starts walking without another word.
"Jace!" Alec calls. "What did you feel? What are you talking about?" Alec demands, Izzy trailing behind the two.
"It's Ari. There's something wrong with her."
"How do you know?" Alec orders. Jace keeps walking, almost running to the school, and the heat and dizziness got slightly stronger.
"I just do. I can't explain, we just have to get to her. Now." He stops talking and breaks out into a sprint.
