Sage

"Ms. Wyatt, it's time for you to wake up. It's your first day at the City School."

Danny squealed and I rolled over in my bed.

"What time is it?"

"7:20 on the dot."

"Why is it so early?" I mumbled.

"Your new school starts earlier than your old one."

I kicked the cover away from myself and stood, letting my feet hit the cold wood flooring.

"Goodmorning, Emerson." I poked him in his side before going into the bathroom.

I took a shower and left out of the bathroom, untwisting my hair.

I decided on a black button down shirt, dark blue pants and a pair of roshes that I had rolled around in the garden yesterday.

I didn't want to draw attention to myself by wearing what I usually wore.

Also, that would probably scream 'rob me'."

Not the best idea.

I got my phone and put it into the deep pocket of my jeans and grabbed my backpack off the floor.

I headed downstairs and put my backpack near the front door before going into the kitchen.

"Goodmorning, everyone." I spoke, taking my place at the table.

My father was dressed for the office and my mother was dressed up too.

She didn't have a job, but she still had an office at the company.

"Are you ready for your first day at the. . .city school?"

"I'm excited and nervous." I admitted, and grabbed a piece of bacon.

"Is that why you couldn't dress yourself properly this morning? Who bought you those clothes?"

"I brought it with the allowance money that daddy gave me."

"Okay, but what type of jacket is that? Where are your Balmain jackets?"

"In my room. Mom, this is Holster"

My dad squinted. "That says Hollister, Sage."

I laughed, embarrassed.

"You didn't want to wear the Givenchy shoes that we got you last week?"

"Not to school, no. These are comfortable, I guess." I shifted my foot into the Nikes.

"Why are they so dirty?"

"Serenity, stop asking her so many questions. She knows what she's doing."

"Hmm. Okay."

"The limo is outside, waiting for you."

I groaned. "Seriously? Can't we just use one of the cars from the subsidiaries?"

My father loved showing off his custom limo.

He got out his phone.

"Which one?"

I shrugged. "Probably one of the Buicks."

I walked up the stairs and squeezed through the kids.

Some of them actually stunk, and it made my heart heavy because I knew why.

Once I got into the school building, a random fat guy lifted me up off of my feet.

"My people!" He took in a deep breath. "And she smell clean too. What's your name, new girl?"
