Bryson

I opened my eyes to see that my head was resting against Sage's chest.

I glanced at the clock to see that I was late for work.

"Shit" I mumbled, hopping out of bed. "Sage, get up"

She groaned before sitting up and rubbing her eye.

"Huh?"

"We gotta go. Hurry up"

"What are you talking about?" She got out of bed and pulled her pajamas down.

"I'm late to work. Get your stuff together so that I can drop you off"

"Drop me off?" She questioned. "Y-you're leaving me again?"

I went to the bathroom and took a shower, but when I came back Sage and all her stuff was gone.

"What the hell?"

Camilla called me and told me that Sage had gotten picked up.

I made sure that I had my phone, room key, and everything else that I might need while working.

When I went to go clock in, Charles was waiting for me.

"I ain't mean to be late. I overslept"

"I don't care"

His harsh tone of voice threw me off.

Was he going to fire me because I was late? It was my first time being late.

I was doing a damn good job delivering that mail too.

"What's wrong?"

"Why aren't you making my daughter happy?"

"What do you mean? I took her out yesterday"

"You took her on a date after a month of not communicating, took her to your hotel room, had sex, woke her up early in the morning telling her that you had to go to work. A job that you don't even need" He stared me directly in my eyes. "Does that sound like that would make anyone happy?"

"No" I admitted.

"Now I know that you and Sage were having some disagreements about the baby, but you're not supposed to run away from your problems. That's not what you do. Whether you know it or not, Sage is very fragile"

She had showed me that when she broke down at the clinic.

I nodded my head.

"You speak with words not gestures"

"Yes, sir"

"As I told you before, don't let me down Bryson"

-

"Sage" I called, knocking on the door to her room.

I heard laughter and opened the door.

Danny was sitting on Sage, banging on her stomach like it was a drum.

"You can't hit your family like that, Emerson. It's rude"

Family?

Was she accepting the baby now?

"Hey"

"You can leave" She spoke without looking at me. "I know you're only here because of my father"

"You wanted to spend time together, yeah?"

"Nope" She responded dryly.

"Sage, why are you being so difficult?"

"I'm not trying to be difficult. I just said that I didn't want to spend time with you. You're the one acting like you couldn't comprehend what I was saying"

"Why you rejecting me when I said that I wanted to spend time with you? I'm sorry about earlier"

"Because when I wanted to spend time with you, you were nowhere to be found, Bryson. Can you just go?"

"Nah, I'm staying" I decided and sat down on the corner of her bed.

"I want to break up" She spoke quietly.

Her words caught me off guard.

When I looked at her, she was looking at her brother.

"What for?"

"I don't want to do - or attempt to do this anymore. We're not working"

"Okay, so let's make it work"

"I don't want to anymore"

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"We aren't the same. It's not like before"

"Of course it's not like before. You're carrying my child now"

She stayed quiet for a few moments and her brother took it as an opportunity to make sounds.

"I'm not trying to go back and fourth with you anymore, Bryson"

"What do you expect Sage? We obviously aren't seeing eye to eye"

"Please leave"
