Bryson

Sage was having my child.

I was going to be a dad.

A loud knock at my door pulled me away from my thoughts.

"Yeah?"

Charles came in and sat on the desk.

"How are you feeling?"

"Me?" I asked.

"Who else?" He chucked.

"I don't really know. Surprised mostly"

"I felt the same way when I found out about Sage. Are you excited, nervous?"

"More excited than Sage, that's for sure"

"She just needs some time, that's all"

I nodded thoughtfully.

"Could you help me find a job?" I questioned.

"A job? What do you need a job for?"

"I want to support my family. You've already done enough for me, and I want to do something on my own, ya know?"

He gave me a small smile. "How does delivering mail sound?"

I didn't think that I'd be too happy delivering mail all across Detroit.

"Uh. . .I don't know about that"

"In the office, Bryson, not the streets"

"Oh, yeah. That sounds fine. Thanks Mr. Wyatt"

"It pays two dollars above minimum wage"

"Yeah, that sounds great. Thanks again"

He stood to leave. "You start next Saturday"

After he left, I went to go brush my teeth and take a shower and all of that other morning stuff.

When I left my room, I went to Sage's.

Her door was closed, but I entered anyway.

I thought that she wasn't there, but I saw that the bathroom light was on.

"Sage" I called, knocking on the door.

I heard the steady dripping of a faucet, and opened the door.

There were candles lit, and Sage was in a bubble bath with bubbles up to her neck. Eyes closed and all.

She was dead.

Well that's what I thought until I saw the suds moving up and down against her chest.

She had fallen asleep in the tub.

I blew out the candles around her and moved them to the counter before reaching down into the tub to let out the water.

It was barely warm and it made me wonder how long she was in here.

I leaned over and lifted her body out of the tub before getting a towel.

She woke up after that, and tried to stand on her own.

Her feet slid from under her, but I still had her.

"Stop" I demanded softly. "I got you"

I reached for her pink cotton robe and put it on her, tying it at the waist.

She mumbled a few incoherent words against my shoulder as I lifted her up.

"What chu say, boo?"

"I was sleep?" She questioned softly.

"Yeah. You shouldn't do that cause you can drown"

"Okay, Bryson"

I laid her down on her bed and went to her dresser.

I furrowed my eyebrows when I opened the drawer.

It was filled with my shirts.

She never wore anything of mine so she must have been taking them just to have.

Lil weirdo.

After I dressed her, she went back to sleep.

I stood to leave. "We'll talk later" I mumbled.

"I love you" She whispered quietly.

"I love you too"

"Don't go" She extended her arm in my direction. "Wait"

I walked back to her bed and sat down.

She reached under her pillow and handed me a white piece of paper.

I flipped the paper over, and it was a sonogram.

I observed the paper and grinned.

"This my child, huh?"

She snored softly in response.
