Sage

I felt Bryson wrap his arm around my waist, making me stir in my sleep.

"We have school in the morning" I yawned, snuggling my body into his.

"I can't sleep" His raspy voice mumbled.

"I could"

"Your room smell like paint. How long you been sleep?"

"Mmm. Thirty minutes" I sat up in the bed and flicked my lamp on.

"I thought you was sleep longer. My bad"

"You're fine. I'm going down to the kitchen for ice cream" I slid my feet into my bedroom shoes and wrapped myself in a blanket from off of my bed.

Bryson got up also and I led the way to the kitchen, discovering that my father and Camilla were already there.

A baby monitor sat on the counter between them. Danny was due to wake up any minute now.

"What are you two doing up?" I questioned.

They both jumped at the sound of my voice.

"Sage, don't do that" My father lectured, but smiled at me.

"We were just talking"

"About work?" I teased.

"Leave em' alone, man" Bryson laughed before going to get the ice cream for me.

If Camilla kept my father happy and vice versa, then I was happy.

"Goodnight, daddy. Goodnight, Camilla"

We said our goodbyes before Bryson and I made our way back to my room.

"I'm surprised that he ain't say nothin' to us" Bryson admitted.

"Me too"

"Sage, I didn't mean to hurt you earlier"

"Oh, I know. It's fine"

He let out a deep sigh of relief.

"I didn't like seeing you cry at all, boo. It hurts my soul"

"Could we try again?" I blurted out.

"What you mean? Like now?"

"Yes" I nodded.

"Sage, that's risky as hell. Your parents downstairs having a jolly old time and I don't think they want to get interrupted by the sound of us having sex. Plus, I don't want to hurt you again"

I decided not to comment on the fact that he saw Camilla as my mother.

"Last time, I promise"

He sighed, but got up to lock the door.

I sat my ice cream down on my dresser and Bryson walked back towards me.

"Cut off the light" I requested.

He gave me a silly look before cutting the light off and making his way towards the bed.

He was suddenly right next to me.

-

I sat down at the lunch table and Bryson took his place beside me.

"Hey, guys" I greeted everyone.

"Wassup?"

"Hey, y'all"

"My goals are back" Keisha pointed at the two of us.

"Y'all awfully close"

I blushed and Bryson kissed me on my temple.

"Am I not allowed to be close to her?" Bryson chuckled.

Covonte shrugged. "Mhm. I see y'all"

Ace let out a laugh himself.

"What?" I asked.

"Nothing. Don't worry about it"

I frowned.

"Te amo a capite ad calcem" Bryson ran his hands over my knuckles.

I love you from head to heel.

"What kinda freaky shit is that? Y'all put me on bruh"

"Shut up, fool"

"I wish my boy-" Keisha quickly shut her mouth.

"Boy what? Finish yo fuckin' sentence, Keisha." Covonte spat.

"Boy toy named Troy, used to live in Detroit. Damn I love me some Nicki" She shook her head and tried to smile innocently.

"I don't want to have to kill a nigga cause they fuckin' with my baby cousin. You really wanna be responsible for that, Keish?" Ace spat.

"I - uh. . ."

The bell rang and Keisha ran off, squeezing through people.

"Her ass better run. You know somethin' bout this, Sage?"

"I know that I have to get to class. Come on, Bryson" I tugged at his arm.

He chuckled. "See y'all later, bruh"

I let go of his arm when we got to the main hallway.

"I see how it is, boo" Bryson smirked at me, making me giggle.

"AYE, SAGE!"

Bryson and I both furrowed our eyebrows and turned around.

It was the same group of kids from my first day.

The fake ones.

"What's up, girl? How come you ain't sit with us at lunch?"

It was obvious that all they saw were dollar signs.

"How come you guys judged me two seconds into my first day?" I questioned.

"We was just playing, can't you take a joke?"

"I don't think that calling me out of my name categorizes as a joke. Thank you for the offer though" I gripped Bryson's hand and walked away.

I looked up to see Bryson staring back down at me.

"I love how you be handling these situations. You be on yo grown woman shit"

I giggled as he leaned down to kiss my lips. "Thank you"
