"Bryson, I want to know more about you"
"More about me?" I questioned. "There's nothing to know"
"There's lots to know. What's your favorite color? What makes you happy? What are your pet peeves?"
"I don't know"
"I want you to open up to me" She whined and sat up on her bed.
"Go ahead and lay back down. Get some sleep"
"Bryson, I -"
"I should go before I stay past my curfew. I don't want to disrespect your dad"
"Okay, bye"
"You mad at me, yeah?"
"No"
I thought that it was cute how she tried to lie, because it was evident in her voice.
"I'll call you later, boo"
"Why would you call me?"
"Cause I'm all the way at the other end of the house, and when I'm not in your presence, I want to talk to you"
"You don't have to do that. Goodnight Bryson"
"Sage-"
"Goodnight Bryson" She repeated.
It wasn't even night time.
Still, I left her alone.
Going to work with her dad three times a week was boring.
But, doing so kept a roof over my head. A nice roof at that, so I couldn't complain.

I pulled her closer to me and we sat down at the edge of the pool.
"Tell me about your past boyfriends"
"No" The attitude in her voice had caught me off guard.
"Why not?"
"You want me to tell you everything about me, and I still don't know you"
I cleared my throat. "Full name, Bryson Djuan Tiller, born in Louisville, Kentucky but moved here with Eric dumbass when I was four cause our mama died. We got 3 other brothers, but I don't know them. I keep more to myself cause don't nobody get me like I get me. Favorite color is black cause I look sexy as hell in it. My favorite brand Nike, if you ain't notice. I like weird shit and all junk food. And got me a lil boo thang named Sage. Thats it really"
"Do you know how hard it was to act mean?" She sighed. "I'm sorry for being harsh"
I laughed. "I see that you an actor, too"
"No. I feel really guilty" She frowned and pushed her hair away from her face. "I'm sorry"
"You already apologized boo, you good"
"Are you sure? You don't have to lie to me. I can handle the truth"
No she couldn't.
"I'm positive"
She leaned in and kissed me on my lips before blushing and turning away.
I dipped my hand in the water and splashed some on her leg.
"Ouch" She whined, turning back around.
"Ouch?" I questioned, laughing.
"Not ouch, but it's cold" She stood to move away from the pool.
"You leaving me all by my lonesome?"
"Oh, you'll be fine. I'm going into the kitchen"
I got up and followed behind her.
When I finally got to the kitchen, Sage was drinking a smoothie and entertaining her brother.
"Emerson!" She laughed, grinning so hard that she was showing all her teeth.
"Loud for no reason. Keep on, he gone go deaf"
She frowned and stopped laughing, taking what I said into consideration.
"I wasn't even that loud. Be quiet, Bryson"
Our eyes locked and we both froze momentarily.
Her cheeks went red, and she tried to hide it behind her brother.
"Bryson, stop looking at me like that. It's annoying"
"Like what?"
I was truly confused as to what she was talking about.
"The staring?" She said in a duh tone.
"You so beautiful, I ain't even realize that I was staring. Got me caught up" I licked my lips.
"You're still staring, Bryson"
I laughed when I realized that she was right.
Oh well.
