"You mad at me, yeah?" Bryson's voice filled my ears.
I nodded my head and strapped the sides of Jayda's diaper.
"Well then I'm sorry"
"Okay"
"Not sorry that I beat his ass, cause I'll damn sure do it again. I'm sorry because I upset you"
"I'm not mad at you, anymore. I just want you to come back"
"Tell me why that clown ass nigga tried to deny putting his hands on you when they was interrogating us the other day."
"Wow, really?" I tried my best to sound convincing.
The only visible marks that Grayson had left on me were the bite marks that trailed down to my shoulder.
Everything else was Eric.
"Yeah, I got it handled though. Jail ain't so bad after all"
"Don't say that" I frowned.
"These officers cool though. I ain't having no problems with none of them"
"That's good"
"Yeah, but I gotta go now, boo. I love you"
I was sort of shocked to hear him say that. Bryson hadn't called me boo or said that he loved me in a long time.
Part of me didn't believe him, but before I could reply, I hung up the phone and set it on my nightstand.
"Guess where your daddy is?" I said and moved my face closer to Jayda's so that our noses were touching.
I saw her blink.
"He's in a very bad place, but he'll be back"
Jayda began to cry loudly, and I frowned.
"I'm sorry" I apologized and lifted her up, giving her a bottle. "I shouldn't have told you that"
While feeding her, I moved my head from side to side, seeing if her eyes followed me.
Doing this helped build her eye muscles and tracking skills.
She stared at me for a moment before looking away.
"After you wake up, you're getting a sponge bath so get in the right mindset"
I had learned that Jayda had absolutely hated water.
-
"Have no fear, your favorite Keisha is here"
I lazily opened my eye and looked to see if Jayda was awake, and she wasn't.
"I'm sleepy" I whined.
"No you're not. Trust me"
I frowned and sat up in Bryson's bed.
I was originally in my room, but then I realized that Eric had sexually assaulted me on my bed and I refused to go in there anymore.
After Eric 'payed me a visit', I had a clear understanding of what I was going to do.
I had sold a few things online already, and Eric received the money through PayPal.
I would have to invest more time into art now, and it wasn't something I would be looking forward to.
But Eric surely scared the hell out of me, so I would do whatever I needed to in order to keep him away from me.
"Sage, you're crying"
"No I'm not" I mumbled, and wiped at a tear on my face.
"I'm telling Bryson"
"Please don't"
"Covonte and I are going to go visit bro in the pen tomorrow"
My father made it clear to me that I wasn't going to go visit Bryson in jail at all.
He also assured me that Bryson would be home soon, and told me not to worry.
I would worry anyway though.
"Sageeeee. What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing" I tried to brush her question off.
"Nuh uh. You haven't said anything about you know what since it happened"
"There's nothing to say, Keisha"
"There's a lot to say. You're not even going to let your bestest best friend" She dug her finger into my side, and I couldn't help but smile slightly.
For a moment, I was going to tell her about Eric.
Then I realized how bad of an idea that was.
I was just going to have to keep everything to myself.
